Name: George
Type: Lingering
Background: George was an English stage actor in life, during the 1930s. He was also a fan of Dickens’ work.
He died at the age of 51 from pneumonia. Now, he sees little reason to pass on; now he can play ghosts! Being a fan of Charles Dickens, Jacob Marley is the role he aspires to the most- he is seen here in costume for the role. (Though he needs to be sure to change his expression to match the role...!)
Creator’s Note: This is my submission to the @mymagicgrandpa/@jitterbugjive ghost contest.
(I did have a second idea of a protector ghost, based on an idea I’ve had for several years. But since I didn’t know if I was allowed to make more than one submission, and because I might still manage to write a story for her myself, I decided to go with this one.)
This is Mags! She’s an echo ghost drawn for @jitterbugjive‘s @mymagicgrandpa ghost-themed art contest! I tried to make a comic for her but my computer’s ports are fried... as is the motherboard, ahahaha, so I can’t post much art or comics stuff because I can’t use my tablet until I am able to purchase a new computer. More about Mags after the cut! Be warned, it’s really long.
This cranky looking lady is my entry for @jitterbugjive s @mymagicgrandpa design a ghost art contest ( http://jitterbugjive.tumblr.com/submit ). Go check it out!
Christina DuBerry was a up and coming french model in life when she married an extremely wealthy American man she met at one of her shows. At first the man was charming, and gifted her with anything she could want; and so for a time they were happy together in Paris. However, as her fame grew, and she traveled more and more often, her husband grew suspicious. Jealous of the men and women he imagined she was sleeping with whenever she wasn’t within his sight. As his jealously grew, the man became extremely possessive and unstable, and attempted to force Christina to quit her career and move with him to America. But she refused, this was no longer the man she had loved.
Her husband flew into a rage! She must not want him because she had found someone else! Fearful of the man she no longer recognized, Christina ran. She didn’t even make it to the back door before she felt the knife slid across her throat. . .
Now Cristina DuBerry haunts her husbands wedding band as a vengeful spirit. Growing more bitter each year as the man she had once loved, then been betrayed and murdered by, wears the band he had slipped on when he promised her a life full of happiness. Now she waits for the most opportune moment to enact her vengeance. She doesn’t just want him to die, she wants him to suffer beyond imagining.
“ Hell has no fury like a woman scorned. “
Though Christina is vengeful ghost, I’m actually super interested in the unfortunate ghost type! It’d been a lot of fun follow them on their journey as they solved what happened to them.
The ghost from my previous drawing, but in a less ghosty-power version, more human. Protector type (but my favourite would have to be either lingering or trickster) This is Amelia Vasht. She died in 1934 at 16 from a grave illness that took her life due to malnutrition making her unable to fight it. This was during a hard time, the Great Depression that spread through America and many other coutries. During her life, however, Amelia was quite happy. Despite her poor circumstances at a younger age, being in a poor kept orphans home, she encountered a theatre troupe that willingly took her in as they did with some other children who had been alone. She was the youngest of the five kids there and would help out by moving things backstage. While there wasn’t much she could do, being only 5, the others were happy to have her around. It was a found family. They all grew cllser over time and Amelia bloomed to be a very passionate and caring young girl. She’d always be looking out for her family, especcially if they were sad or upset, and soon started mking little gifts that she’d have a meaning behind to give to who ever was having a troubling time. The first of these gifts was after a year nd a half or so of living with the troupe. She made a white mask with one smiling cresent eye, and the other a sad cresent eye, of which she gave to one of the actors after a string of unfortunate events that just became to much when his luck mask had broken. Amelia gave him the new mask and explained how glad she was to hbe found them, and what love she felt from her found family and how that helped her get out of the shell she had built up, helped her be more open and free and expressive, so she wanted to do something in return. The actor soon told the whole troupe the story and the mask became a uniting symbol of sorts for everyone to aim to be as a person to eachother. The troupe took a hard toll when the depressipn came around though. With funds being tight, no one came to the play house and the troupe was forced to disband to find work. This wasn’t, however, before Amelia passed.
Fueled by her connection to the troupe and the family she had there, she was determined to keep watch over the play house where they had stayed most of the time and thus where she largely grew up and all called home.
She was confused at first when she was a new ghost, not knowing quite how she could’ve survived her illness. Panic came over as everyone started to leave over the next few days. The troupe master was last to leave and he talked quietly to Amelia’s spirit that he beleived to reside, and he said they would always be there. He left the mask on the stage and the day after he left, the play house shut down. Taking up the mask, Amelia protects the place she called home and what it meant to her and those in her family and will continue to do so until the joy and bonds it represents can be shown again.
