MOON [ ERR ]
You didn't hesitate to run when you heard Shine hissing.
If she was terrified, you knew you should be too.
Almost without thinking, you began to run, right besides Shine as she was too frightened to leave your side.
You didn't need to look to know what was behind you.
Something inhumane, something eldritch.
You could gather about that much, seeing as it let out a horrible gurgle, as if trying and failing to imitate a growl and failing to, before the sound of stomping footsteps got closer.
It sounded like too many feet. Too many to be moving properly, too many for a human or for any animal.
Everything in your body was screaming for you to turn around, just one look wouldn't hurt right? Just one glance, surely.
But you knew better. If you stopped for even a minute, it would catch you and then kill you.
And then who knows what would happen to Shine.
So you grit your teeth and hoped to god you didn't sprain your ankle. These shoes weren't meant for running, but by god would you at least try and make it than just lie down and accept fate.
You didn't loom behind you.
You didn't look at the streaks of flesh blood on the asphalt of the streets as you ran.
You didn't look at the corpse of your old homeroom teacher. G o d, you hated him but..
You only looked when Shine had found somewhere to hide. A bit cramped, but you had just enough time to crawl under it.
The thing's jaws missed you by just a few inches.
If you had looked.. if you had..
...
It got bored eventually. It couldn't fit it's cow-like skull in between the gap, let alone the other skulls of what you thought might be some people in town.
The thought of how that had happened made you shudder, and you stayed silent with Shine for a few more minutes before looking out to empty, fog-covered streets.
..And the wide fields towards Newt County being right in front of you.
