As Ramadan draws near, my heart is heavy.

I am a pregnant mother of three young children, trying every day to protect them from the harsh cold of winter and the weight of life in Gaza.

Winter here is unforgiving. The nights are long, the cold is biting, and my children shiver as I hold them close, wishing I could give them warmth, safety, and peace. Ramadan is meant to be a month of mercy and comfort, yet we are entering it struggling to meet our most basic needs.

I am doing my best to stay strong for my children, even while carrying a new life inside me. No mother should have to choose between food, warmth, and dignity—especially in Ramadan.

Your support, even the smallest help or a simple share, can bring real relief to my family. It can help us survive this winter and welcome Ramadan with a little hope instead of fear.

There has never been a moment where Jake has thanked his lucky stars for living on an island more than now. In fact, when he turns into a merman, he’s resting on a sandy beach on the edge of a jungle a mere few decametres away from his abode. Arguably the perfect spot to be in right now. On his head rests the proclaimed red top hat, the brim of which he gently runs his fingers along. A quick examination of his body reveals green fins on his elbows, scales peppering his body, spikes protruding from the spine which end in a smaller tail, and a longer, verdant tail, of which ends in a fan of fins. Unbeknownst to Jake, he’s just been turned into a hybrid between a human and merrow. The hands move down to examine gills on the sides of his neck and stomach – the latter of which are submerged in cool, ocean water. Even still, he finds being on land to not be as big of a challenge as he would have anticipated.

This is just like in that one movie!

Out from his sylladex lands his phone, which he quickly opens, regardless of the wet sand sticking to his palms or the threat of water below. At least the case is waterproof. Whether that’s accurate or not, he’s proclaiming innocence as bliss.

This is more exciting than anything else! He’s never been turned into another being before. The magic of the anons has never graced his body until now. This was nothing short of exhilarating.

Even though he was nervous about this before, now he’s just excited to go exploring the ocean in ways he was never able to before. Which he promptly does. After tossing the phone back into his sylladex, of course.

Oh that’s right, they’d forgotten! (Technically she’d “liked” the post before actually reading the part about receiving pie for doing so.) But pie was never a poor surprise, especially since ae’d kept all the candy received today for later, so their sweet tooth was still fresh. And hot pie sounded like just the thing.....they’d send a thank-you note and a compliment about the pie, and a few pieces of blessed halloween candy...once everything had calmed down on her end.

You feel like a meowbeast warmed by the hearth, sleepy and calm, only vaguely aware of the hive moving around it.

She moves off, and you watch her, curling your legs up to lean on them a little. When she comes back, you’ve closed your eyes, and only hear her scales scraping against the grass and dirt, and then feel her hand in your hair, tucking a little red flower behind your ear. Even then you don’t jump, you just smile at her, because she’s sweet. That was sweet.

SEEING GHOSTS.

Her thumb and pointer finger pinch across her screen for what must have been the twentieth time, drawing in close to the face in the photo she'd saved to her phone in a haze of shaking fingers and fear when she first stumbled on it. Her hands still aren't steady. Her wrists are shaking from the strain of holding her phone in the same stiff position she's kept it in but the panic has subsided. The anxious feeling that comes after an adrenaline rush sits heavy on her chest and mingles with a dull hurt she's been all too acquainted with in the past year.

He doesn't look exactly the same. She could pull out a picture, place the two side by side and play a game of spot the difference. His nose is different, crooked like it wasn't properly set. His eyes are a little different. A lighting difference maybe. But Artemis has seen that look before on a younger face. Small things don't change the whole picture. She knows what her best friend looked like even it's been years since she's seen him.

She's unknowingly mirroring the same position she was in years ago when she went to Dick intent on making birthday plans and learning she'd missed a funeral. Her legs are cold against her kitchen tile and her back is against a cabinet instead of her bathroom door. Her bottom lip is bleeding from the pressure of her teeth. Red blotches are crawling up her neck and cheeks. She's not going to cry. She's not going to cry. She's going to -

She doesn't know what she's going to do.

Her fingers leave the screen and the picture slides back into full view. Denial tries to creep in. Or that may he rationality. People don't just come back from the dead after years. People don't come back. She's seeing ghosts.

Ghosts who live in Gotham. And haven't been directly unkind to her once since they came into her life. Who know things they have no business knowing and may have been leaving her hints she didn't catch. Messages about half empty lighters and French -

The light of her phone starts to dim from her lack of activity. Her thumb quickly taps the screen to bring it back and she looks. Really looks. And all of the rational thinking she can muster can't drown out what she knows. She knows her best friend. She knows Jason.
