Imagining a Christmas tree that’s been allowed— nay, forced— to grow to 300 ft tall. And the ornaments are all $6.99 rotisserie chickens. Well friends it’s a metaphor for America.

My grandpa (a ww2 veteran) gave me this flag before passing away. Can anyone help provide some context and or translate the text written in the flag
from /r/vexillology Top comment: It’s a Imperial Japanese Prayer Flag. Before going off to service(Regardless of the military branch) an Imperial Japanese soldier’s family would take a flag of the Rising Sun and inscribe prayers upon the flag for them. They would only inscribe on the white portions of the flag, the crimson representation of the Rising Sun was considered a sacred symbol and thus was not to be written upon. As for the inscriptions upon this particular flag I do not know since I do not know how to read Japanese. However it’s possible to not only translate it but also to discover which family this prayer flag came from, for it has previously occurred that prayer flags were returned after research concerning the family origins were conducted upon them.
