Nothing had struck Imani out of the ordinary that morning, not even as she pulled herself from bed with a yawn and went to wake Callie. A sleepy smile curled at the woman’s lips at the knowledge of the task she had before her, Callie always balked at getting up in the morning and it’d be no different this morning either. Entering the little girl’s room, Imani sat at the side of her bed and reached out to rest a hand on the shoulder of the sprawled out little girl. “Come on, Callie, morning time.”
‘Don’ wanna,’ Imani heard at the same time as a sleepy mumble left Callie. The woman paused for a second in confusion as an image flashed in front of her eyes. What on earth...? Blinking in confusion, Imani’s brow furrowed as she looked down at the young girl.
“Callie,” Imani called again.
'Mm?’ Green eyes slowly blinked open to look at Imani, but then confusion grew on her face as well. Did she...? Did Mani...? Before the two could continue though, Ayo made his way into the room, a mug of coffee in one hand and he yawned as he reached out to mess up his big sister’s hair.
“Morning Mani, morning, Callie. You awake yet?” Yet as Ayo’s hand came in contact Imani’s head, causing her own to raise so that it could swat at him, her hand froze as another flash of images and a sleepy voice joined the noise, bringing Callie’s attention back to her.
“Oh! Mani!” The girl gaped up at her wide-eyed, no trace of sleepiness in her expression anymore. “You’re like me now! But--but why?” At that, Ayo looked at the two in confusion and Imani bit her lip.
It wasn’t long before the woman was pacing the length of her living room, Ayo hovering nearby as Callie tried to help by shouting out tips that Ichirou had taught her. They managed to confirm that her own power was somehow gone, and in its place was this. But that didn’t make any sense, as far as her and Ayo knew, they’d never heard of an elf’s power changing or disappearing entirely. Not like this. So what happened to hers and was she stuck like this? Not to mention it was difficult to focus with the constant stream of voices from Callie and Ayo’s thoughts. But memories, mind reading...maybe she should call Ichirou. Just as she began to reach for her phone, a knock came at the front door drawing all three elves’ heads towards it. Oh shoot, oh right, Ichirou was coming over today anyways.
With Callie’s cheer of excitement behind her as Imani went to fling open the door, Ichirou would be greeted by the sight of his girlfriend surprisingly close to something that could almost be classified as “frazzled”.
“Ichirou,” Imani stared up at him, golden eyes confused, “I can read minds.”
