Sammy stares wide eyed at Audrey, or atleast who she assumes is Audrey despite the gloss in her watering eyes. She feels claustrophobic and almost nauseous despite the large test chamber and stomach full of rations. She‘s trying her absolute damnedest to hold a brave face in front of Audrey, but her composure begins slipping as the realization sinks in.
If she’d had any idea this was how her day would’ve ended, she’d never have taken the risk of leaving Concordia. Her ma was right, about Jack, about Elpis, about Audrey. But strained as the two’s relationship was, Audrey is Sammy’s only company for now. The collar around her sore throat hugs her neck uncomfortably tight and further enhances her biliousness, it feels…wrong, in a way the thirteen year old can’t describe.
“What do we do now?” Sammy asks, her voice cracking and nasally from the snot clogging her nose.
Audrey is statue still, she doesn’t know what to do, and she has to default to what she’s been assigned. Stay here and watch the new girl. She has to stay physically safe and with Audrey there, Sammy is arguably one of the safest people on Helios. Emotionally, Sammy can’t get too much help from the other girl. They have matching collars after all and are under the same captors. Audrey is watching Sammy cry and have a meltdown. It’s understandable. Audrey was in a similar state after her first few days in the labs. Inconsolable, having emotional breakdowns, crying, “screaming,” and eventually aggression towards anyone that got too close. Only after the years it took for Audrey’s powers to develop did she calm down a little and make her resistance and bit more refined. Then the break on Elpis. She’d been given a loose leash by Jack at first and in some instances, bonded with her teammates. That progress was quickly taken back when Jack’s face had that brand on it. He’d managed to even use the last of Audrey’s trust to kidnap one of the Concordian People. Audrey gives Sammy another few moments of eye contact before the guard couldn’t stand it anymore. She takes a few cautious steps to Sammy with a suggestions. Something Audrey would’ve wanted those years ago. [Not completely sure, want to start by getting cleaned up?] A hot shower and a warm towel can go a long way.
