lee isn’t used to anyone caring-- let alone anyone trying to stop her from leaving. the witch moves around quite a bit, it isn’t anything personal... though maybe she’s fooling herself this time around, because she honestly hadn’t truly considered leaving until the realization of just how close her and psyche were getting actually hit home.

she lets out a sigh, though it resonates as more of a huff; she’s not frustrated with psyche, but with herself. the pale, black-nailed hand that isn’t gripped by the other’s is curled against lava’s shoulder, lee having just been about to mount up. this is just how things work for her. psyche doesn’t deserve to put up with her any longer.

“hey, look, i just-- i can’t stay, okay? i’m gonna screw things up one way or another, so... the longer i hang around, the worse it’s gonna be, y’know?”

she’s never been this close to him-- in fact, she’s never been this close to anyone.

the witch’s heart is a-flutter, and for once in her life, that doesn’t feel like a bad thing. lee’s self-conscious, so very self-conscious, when it comes to her body, even though now, she really doesn’t have much of a reason to be. and yet, every time she looks in the mirror, she sees herself decaying; bear has caught her one too many times, broken down, trying to drive the bad thoughts away. 

sometimes she doesn’t know what he sees in her, why he keeps her around. bear jones is too good for her, far too kind for her. she doesn’t deserve him, and not so deep down, just bubbling beneath the surface, lee is painfully aware of just how much that statement rings true. it’s something she doesn’t bring up, and the witch hopes that someday, somehow, she can rid herself of those doubts forever... or at least bury them.

it’s one of those nights where they’ve both retreated to the couch; sure, they’ve taken to sharing a bed recently, though that hand-me-down couch situated in the living room of bear’s small cabin feels more suited to the kind of comfort they both need. the two are cuddled together, lee’s chin resting atop bear’s head with the young man’s face buried in the crook of her neck. arms lazily hold the other, both with the goal of keeping the other close but not restrained.

her eyes are closed, savoring the contact, only to flutter open upon feeling his lips graze the darkened web of scars over her heart. there’s a moment of hesitation, panic-- does she pull away? no... no, he’s so soft... calm... relaxed. as bear continues his kisses, shifting to somehow hold her closer, lee lets out a trembling sigh, curling further around him, burying her face in his hair.

nothing else matters tonight. just bear.

SHE’S STILL REELING FROM JUST HOW CLOSE they’d come to having a MAJOR accident on their hands. Lee’s hands are shaking, and the domed shield surrounding her, Cass, and their mounts flickers, disappearing as the witch’s magic finally deems them safe. It wasn’t often that they headed through mountainous areas, less often that they did so just the two of them, however the band of knights was on a break... but both Cassandra and Lee had decided they really didn’t feel like going back to Corona.

“Y-Yeah--” Lee finally allows herself a moment to breathe, a hand combing through her golden locks and then reaching forward to lightly pat Lava’s neck. “Who could’ve predicted that kinda rock slide? I’m just-- I’m just glad we’re all okay. 

Honestly, though? I think we’re both just lucky that I don’t let you do shit like this BY YOURSELF--”

“Dove, get on--!!” Lava slides to a near-halt, pivoting in a half-circle as Lee leans down to grab the younger’s arm and haul her aboard the black mare. As soon as Lava feels Dove’s weight on her back, her arms around Lee’s waist, she takes off once again, mane whipping in a wind of her own creation. Lee casts a glance over her shoulder, entrusting her steed to go on auto-pilot, avoiding any oncoming traffic. Though the horse isn’t one to obey stoplights, Lee hopes she’ll at least try not to get them pulled over by the GCPD.

“You okay?” The witch realizes it might be a bit hard for Dove to hear her as Lava rushes down Main Street, but she wants to make sure the girl isn’t hurt. “Hangin’ in there?”

“...whoa.” 

She really didn’t have any other words to describe the sight of a GIANT BLACK WOLF. Sure, Lava was odd, but she wasn’t... Lava was at least PASSABLE for a normal horse when it was called for, but Perun? Definitely too big to be a normal wolf. Lee’s breathy laugh of disbelief quickly turned into a large grin-- she absolutely LOVED wolves.

Carefully, she followed Psyche up to the creature, a pale hand reaching out to find purchase in thick, dark fur. Blue eyes drifted over to the other with a smile; Psyche was probably the first person she’d met with a story so eerily similar to her own, the two having taken to each other rather quickly. It was... NICE to have someone to talk to about, well... being of the UNDEAD variety.

Lava stood close behind Lee, nostrils wide, snorting loudly. She had never seen such a creature, and though she was steadfast in her determination to, quote, “be scared of no things,” the mare was fighting a losing battle. 

“You seriously ride around on a WOLF--? And I thought WE were cool.”

HE’D STUMBLED, AND THEY DIDN’T HAVE TIME FOR THAT BULLSHIT-- Something was after them, something green and glowing and MASSIVE. Her gut screamed ‘GHOST,’ but that couldn’t be right, could it? For a witch, she wasn’t exactly the most familiar with other so-called SUPERNATURAL entities.

Maneuvering Lava mid-gallop, Lee wrapped the mare’s mane around her arm and leaned down, hanging off the horse’s side to lean down and grab the other, hauling him up behind her onto Lava’s back. The dark mare didn’t even break stride, briefly looking over her shoulder to make sure Lee and her new passenger were safe.

“Better hang on, this is gonna be a REALLY ROUGH ride with WHATEVER THE HELL THAT IS chasing us--”

He doesn’t leave for work as early as she does, Lee sometimes choosing the 6am shifts-- especially now that she’s sleeping better. She has Bear to thank for that, honestly. Living with him has helped her get over quite a few habits; her insomnia has lessened, the nightmares are near gone when she sleeps next to him... and she’s began the progress of cutting out her vigilante tendencies. 

Of course, the witch hasn’t been able to quit cold turkey, but she knows it worries him. She’s not a fool-- she’s put two and two together, coming home in the dead of night to find a light on, to find him still awake. The amount of times she’s dragged herself home bloodied and bruised... or put him at risk because of his association with her... the constant fear that ACE could be keeping an eye on him through her behavior--

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. And she feels good about it.

Lee’s awake and dressed, she’ll grab a mild coffee at work (caffeine is not great for her,) but she starts a small pot for Bear in case he wants it. Keys are swept off the countertop and into her pocket, and though she swears he was still sleeping when she got up, Bear’s sitting on the couch, still in his pajamas, eyes half-lidded. The witch can’t help but smile, stepping up to him from behind, arms hanging down over his shoulders. Instinctively, he tilts his head up for a kiss. Though they may be routine, they’re hardly ever short.

“Hey, coffee’s on if y’ want it. I’ll see you at noon-ish, okay? Text me where you want lunch from, ‘n I’ll pick it up on my way over. I’m taking Lava t’ work this morning, but I’ll send her home if you don’t wanna walk.”

He’d had to help her get undressed, get her into the bathtub. It’s maybe been a half hour since Lava dragged her home, the witch nearly passed out atop the mare’s back when they’d gotten back home to Bear. Lava couldn’t explain what had happened, and Lee was in no shape to talk, so thankfully Bear hadn’t asked any questions.

Truthfully, she’d gotten into a rather nasty FIGHT-- bloodied and bruised, she’d managed to hold her own for a while, though her heart had gotten the better of her this time. Lee could only use her magic for so long before it started to take a toll on her; the witch was still figuring out her limits. 

Eyes half-lidded, hair matted with purplish blood, Lee took deep, trembling breaths as Bear reached for her face, gently dabbing at the wounds on her cheek.
