hug – Eros embraces Psyche

Psyche freezes completely in the spot as Eros’ arms encircles her small frame. Everything is still too fresh to her–it has always been that way for a long time, even if she tried to accept things as quickly as everyone else did. The frozen smile on her lips that she hopes doesn’t truly give away her emotions stays upon her lips as she robotically holds Eros back, the press of her palms against his back too light to be considered a touch. His touch burned against her skin, like an open flame to her senses, the fear of that reciprocating his physical affection in a hug would lead her to have more difficulty in putting things between them down making it difficult for her to express her certain affection. 

Till now, she still hadn’t gotten over everything yet. Her emotions hung in a precarious balance, threatening to tip over to either side of the vast chasm, only balanced and maintained by her sheer force of willpower alone. 

“Eros?” Her voice trembles softly, quiet but relenting. “I think we need to talk.” Her voice was faded but firm. “Because I don’t think you were informed.” Her head bows slightly as she separates from his touch, glancing down to her fingers delicately. “We…” She wonders how exactly she’s supposed to put into words something that she had relied on Aphrodite to tell Eros for her (which, she hadn’t known that the other goddess hadn’t done so). “We had a daughter. Years and years ago. Still have her, but well.” Words trip over each other, fumbling and spilling like a water from a broken dam as her cheeks flushed. “I always thought you knew and so…” She halts, words caged behind her lips. “And I thought Aphrodite told you, so I didn’t–” She trails off again, guilt slowly burgeoning in the chambers of her heart. She had unintentionally robbed him of their daughter, even if she hadn’t known that he didn’t receive the news about it. “I’m sorry.” Her words always seem to end in that shameful, shameful word of “I’m sorry.”, as though her life was nothing but an endless circle of repeated mistakes.

“It is not up to the stars to hold your destiny, but up to yourself.”

“Words are easy to say, and actions harder to do.” Psyche murmurs her reply to the other god wistfully. “Just like its always easy to say that you can let go of something you desire and love for centuries but not actually do so until months later.” There’s a wistful note of wisdom in her voice, soothing but lilting. “But then again, we should always, all try.”

“What’s done cannot be undone.”

Psyche hates the fact that Tsukiyomi has nothing but the bitter truth for her to stomach sometimes. Its not something that she finds very easy to hold off, especially when she’s looking at the ruined tea that she had been trying to brew with a pout upon her very lips. 

“But…but..” She huffs despondently, sighing multiple times to her own self as she glares at her clumsy hands that had spilled the tea accidentally. No matter how accidentally this accident was, the perfect cup of tea that she had been learning how to brew just like Tsukiyomi did was now completely ruined and spilled all over the table. She had been just nimble enough to avoid the hot tea splashing upon her, but a few droplets still found their way onto her fingers. The goddess winced visibly as she sucked on the reddened skin, blowing on the slightly scalded area of her hands delicately as she blinked up at Tsukiyomi in the next moment.

“What’s done cannot be undone, but I’m still trying again.” She puffs up slightly, before deflating at the thought and remember that she had wasted his tea leaves once again. “But I’ve still made the mistake of wasting your tea leaves.” Her teeth worried her bottom lip. “I’m sorry.”

“Even irrational outrages?” Psyche can’t help but feel that tiny creep of a smile fluttering over her delicately pursed lips. Life hasn’t been so well to her--and at the very most she was treating things as though they were little dots of colour, happiness, that was fleeting, but lasted. At least, for a strange while or so.

“Irrational outrages are the most difficult to have.” She adds in after a moment, a strange pause tilting her sentences. “I wish I could have irrational outrages. Then perhaps, I wouldn’t be so prone to being always so sad.” She tilts her head at the demigod delicately. “What about you? What do you think?”

"I always wished for a proper family when I was young. But as I grew older--I realised that family was pretty much overrated, and I was better off on my own. Perhaps its because that I’ve been alone for far too long and far too estranged from my only surviving parent, but I feel that this wish, not being fulfilled was ultimately for the best.” 

👀what would you like your legacy to be like?

"My legacy? I’d honestly just prefer my legacy to just be known as someone who is kind and gentle, who leaves a good impression, I suppose. I want to be remembered, to be fondly recalled.  My bar isn’t very high--its actually really low. I learnt the hard way that the higher your expectations, the greater the disappointment, so I’m doing it the exact opposite way.”

“Don’t say that! You’ll jinx it! Its not as though I wouldn’t admit that there’s that possibility. We’re an old team that bc has had for a long while after all. Fame is fleeting and popularity, even more so. But I suppose as long as we have our loyal fans, I don’t think bee would be disbanded by bc anytime soon. Hopefully.”
