June 2nd: 2026: Two big surprises from across the gokagai! Umekano (梅叶乃) of Umeno (梅乃) in Kamishichiken is celebrating her misedashi while a familiar face is making her return under a new name in Miyagawa Cho! Momone (百音) has debuted directly under the kenban, but you may recognize her better as former geiko Koume (小梅) of Kaden (花傳)! After a 6½ year hiatus she is back to join her fellow geimaiko of the Miyagawa Cho kagai. Umekano is the first debut for Kamishichiken this year and joins the giant grouping of seven maiko for the small district! While Momone didn't have a formal misedashi and just started working again, Umekano did and wore a black kuromontsuki with cypress fans and a golden shippō and karabana obi ^^ おめでとうさんどす百音さんと梅叶乃ちゃん ^o^! May 30th, 2026: Double the delight in Gion Kobu! Asuha (明日葉) of Tama (多麻) and Hisano (寿乃) of Fukushima (福嶋) are celebrating their erikae! Both girls have worked so hard to get to this point and it's great to see them finally wearing their katsura! Both are also a first: Asuha is the first (and only) imōto of Eriha (恵里葉), also of Tama, to have her erikae while Hisano is the first (and only) imōto of Fumino (章乃), also of Fukushima, to have her erikae as well! Hisano, unfortunately, will be the only imōto of Fumino's to have her erikae as Fumino retired last year. Asuha is wearing the same outfit that her okasan Tamakazu wore for her erikae, which is pine, waves, and genjikō with a golden crane obi while Hisano is wearing a pine, waves, and haze outfit with a golden paper butterfly obi ^^ おめでとうさんどす明日葉さんと寿乃さん ^o^! Hello everyone, guess who's back posting on Tumblr!!! I've been really busy with real-life stuff, but I come bearing good news. I passed the geiko exam and will start preparing for my erikae!!!! In Miyajimacho, once a maiko passes her exam, she can wear three hairstyles before wearing the yakko shimada and sakkou hairstyles. So my first pre-Sakkou hairstyle is the Oshun hairstyle.

May 27th, 2026: A double surprise on a rainy day! Hanae (はな恵) of Tsurui (つる居) in Gion Kobu is celebrating her misedashi while her onesan Erika (恵里佳), also of Tsurui, celebrates her erikae! Like with Sayaka before her, Tsurui had no active geiko, so Erika took over onesan duties the same day she had her erikae! Tsurui likes dressing their girls in kuromontsuki with waves for misedashi and erikae, and this day was no different (although very appropriate!); they symbolize change and new beginnings, which is perfect for such a celebration. Erika's outfit features cranes over waves with a golden obi of shippō and karabana while Hanae's outfit features waves, shōchikubai, and kai awase and a golden shippō and karabana obi ^^ おめでとうさんどす恵里佳さんとはな恵ちゃん ^o^! At this year's Fuji hanamikai, senior maiko Umeyuu danced Rokudan Kuzushi, and our newcomer maiko Fumikiyo danced Gion Kouta. It was her first time performing at Hanamikai, since she debuted in December. Would you like to try your hand at becoming a maiko too?

Miyajimacho's most senior maiko, Umeyuu, gave a heartfelt performance of Rokudan kuzushi at this year's Fuji hanamikai! Doesn't she look wonderful among the wisteria branches?

May 25th, 2026: Another maiko makes her debut on the streets on Hanami Koji! Katsuyumi (佳つ弓) of Odamoto (小田本) in Gion Kobu is celebrating her misedashi! She is the imōto of Katsuhana (佳つ花), also of Odamoto, and the third active maiko at her okiya. She has debuted in the middle of a misedashi and erikae storm in Gion Kobu this month, but her outfit and personality have made her stand out! Her outfit features golden ships among blue waves with colored haze and a golden karabana and shōchikubai obi ^^ おめでとうさんどす佳つ弓ちゃん ^o^! Image is courtesy of 1020Kiddo.
