Identity for Zooba by &Walsh

Zooba is an Egyptian street food restaurant based in Cairo. Their food is a modern twist on traditional classics. With the opening of their first store in NYC, they came to us for a new brand identity. We went to Cairo and were inspired by the beauty of the layered visuals we saw on the streets: the hand-painted typography on foul carts, geometric patterned tapes, mix & matched colored tiles, posters, and painted illustrations on walls. 

We worked with a Cairo-based calligraphy artist to paint the Arabic type for the branding. We layered this with modern versions of patterns and illustrations inspired by the streets of Cairo. Just like their food is a modern twist on traditional classics, we aimed to do this with the visual language.

&Walsh Brand Identity

Same kick-ass creative team. Same studio on Broadway. A new look & name for their new chapter with a new vision. What did it take to brand &Walsh? Like all good things in life, it didn’t come easy. It took many talented people, two months of work, drawing 1,230 ampersands, an existential crisis, a lot of coffee, and 42 migraines.

Branding uses an ampersand for both the visual identity and tonal expression. This typographic system includes clients, projects, collaborators, experiments & endeavors: hence the (Blank) & Walsh. They've drawn 50 final ampersands in their style and will draw a custom ampersand drawn for every new project or team member. The ampersand is one of the most beautiful typographic characters and will challenge themselves to continuously reinvent its form.

This dazzling new branding is a lesson in combatting scientific misinformation

A first look at biodesign firm Geltor’s stunning new brand identity, designed by &Walsh.

“For Geltor, &Walsh combined vibrant colors with flowers and leaves encased in 3D spheres. &Walsh founder Jessica Walsh says the visuals take cues from the so-called tree of life—a model and research tool used to explore the evolution of life and describe the relationships between the different species on Earth. “We were also inspired by glass orb terrariums, a place for growth and life,” Walsh says.

Growing inside each “orb” is a dazzling concoction of elements plucked from nature, every one of them inspired by Geltor’s various proteins and their benefits.

For Collume—a vegan collagen that can be used in cosmetics—the designers incorporated marine elements like a coral reef and a pearl oyster to reflect the product’s marine origins.

For PrimaColl—an animal-free collagen for food and beverage products—they illustrated edible plants like red clovers, butterfly pea flowers, and rose hips. “The image is intended to speak to the ingestible side of Geltor’s products,” Walsh says.

&Walsh brightens up vertical farming company Plenty

As part of the rebrand, &Walsh did away with typical green cues in favour of more approachable look and feel including a “welcoming” custom typeface.
