out of curiosity, what was the adjustment period like when you first became a groundsmind? as someone who's operated cctv cameras, where the adjustment period absolutely sucks, i have to imagine suddenly being An Entire Living Building Plus Its Nonsapient Staff would be significantly worse and significantly more... barfy
the role of a groundsmind is certainly an incredibly complex one. however, it is not one typically undertaken without extensive training. if an untrained obesk were put into the position, it would likely be as you described, but... the adjustment period for me was not as sudden. i underwent the standard preparation for my role. in that preparation is likely where our similarities lie
the early stages of training are disorienting. though it is different from how you describe your cameras. occupying the mind of one of our golems feels different than simple external observation. its senses and limbs, though alien as they first reach your mind, come to feel natural to you. adjusting to occupying a new mind quickly is where the difficulty and need for experience arises. many struggle to orient themselves at first when connecting to another mind. it can feel... 'barfy', as you put it, for the inexperienced. that cannot be the case for a groundsmind. if several blinks were needed to reorient oneself every time there was a shift in perspective... you can imagine the problems that would cause, hah
controlling clawfuls of staff and organs simultaneously is simpler than how you might imagine. our constructs have their own minds, simple as it may be. they do not require my full attention in order to function - only brief overlaps. that part may be similar to your cameras, as they similarly continue to carry out their function when not directly operated. but there is an important distinction: the ability for memories to be shared by your target. your cameras cannot easily share what they have seen in your absence like our golems can. because of that, it is not terribly difficult to reorient oneself in the task, issue the necessary corrections from your primary mind, and then shift attention to another. with proper preparation, that is
in larval lives, the amount of focus and stress required for groundsmindry often caused great fatigue. this is thankfully no longer the case for us in our deaths. groundsmindry remains a taxing role, but is now much more manageable in the long-term
