47. Did you get my letter? | Young K
It has been nearly four years since you last saw yourchildhood friend, Younghyun. But that doesn’t mean that you hadn’t kept incontact. The frequency of Skype calls varied but there was always at least oneeach week.
“Did you get myletter?” His voice was low. It was nearly midnight in Canada, his roommateswere probably sleeping, whereas in South Korea, it was the afternoon. You couldtell he needed sleep, but you couldn’t help but to be a bit selfish.
“I have a box full of them, Younghyun,” you watched his facelight up when you admitted you kept every single letter he sent over the lastfour years. “But I keep this one on my bedside table and read it every nightbefore I go to sleep.” Showing him the signature was enough for him torecognise what one it was. It was the only one signed off as ‘Younghyun’, themost recent one he sent. The one where he poured out all of his heart andfeelings about you on paper and sent it to you when he finally had the guts todo so.
Every sentence you read made your heart skip a beat, andreading it in his scrawl of a handwriting made you realise that, yes, this wasyour best friend who sent this to you. And yes, he was jealous of your onemonth relationship with that guy. And finally, yes, he was coming home afterthe school year.
“Yes, that one,” he yawned. It was getting late. “But Ithought I told you; it’s Brian, now.”
“You’ll always be ‘Younghyun’ to me,” you said. “Go get somesleep. I can’t wait until you get back, Younghyun.”
