It is the wrong day for Worldbuilding

But, as I am doing my best to write this next book, I have an offering of information on the Wake and Glaer. Once again the title comprises the major areas visited. Weald and Wen took place in the woods. This one's taking place on the seas.

Let's meet those seas, shall we?

The Swell

Runoff of sap that fills the roots of the Wen’s mushroom trees. It is naturally warm, smells of sweet syrup, tastes like honey, is easily absorbed into the skin, attempts to suck in any living thing it touches and is incredibly buoyant when cooled. Consuming it dulls the senses, making the imbiber more “pliant”. Consuming too much of it induces hallucinations and leads to a slow, agonizing death. It is very difficult to traverse by swimming or boating by anything but the creatures that have learned to - gargantuan beasts known as cheln who have evolved their wide flippers to dig through the sap for the taste of its syrup.

The Wasting Wake

The waters of the dead zone that splits the The Swell from the Glaer. It's a deceptively wide, deep trench of greasy water so bright and thick it obscures all beyond a hand deep and lingers on any who touch its waters. The surface burns to the touch and shimmers in a kaleidoscope of mismatched color from the runoff of all the other waters of the many seas that swirl within it. The Wasting Wake earns its name from the acidic waters which waste the flesh of any who linger in them, dispersing their Breath and dissolving all but bone. Those who are stripped clean remain mobile, half-alive and trapped in a loop of whatever they were doing when they didn't die. Gargantuan skeletal beasts haunt these waters, the shimmer of their long-dissolved scales visible in latelight and gleaming in Sorrow. A feast for the eyes they are, their soundless song a siren to the mind, luring any not properly protected to dive into their open maws and be dissolved by the waters or ground in their teeth.

The Glaer

Waters in a myriad of purples, blues, pinks and grays that makes up the bulk of ocean in the World Egg. Their colors shift, mix, and swirl depending on location and depth. The warm gray dust that covers much of the lands washes into the Glaer, giving it a natural warmth and a glittering surface. It also makes the surface caustic. While one should never drink from—or breathe near—the Glaer’s surface, its deeper waters are entirely breathable—though it does begin to burn after a bit—fairly easy to sail or swim, and fresh, clean and drinkable—a heady delight truly, leaving one deliriously happy and unconcerned with anything other than drinking more and more and more. It is, however impossibly deep and the deeper one drops the darker the water becomes and the stronger its currents. There are not fiends hiding within its waters, naught but comforting warmth and safety. The Glaer offers little resistance to those braving its depths, in fact it welcomes such visitors with open, eager arms.
