✨The flamboyant bards✨
So flamboyant they took going out with a bang literally
As promised, the fanart on my banner! If it wasn't obvious, I'm team Bards all the way. Best captains with the slightly insane Casper and Callista, and best goyen with the even more insane Sunspear, what can I say. Their motto could literally be "gaslight gatekeep girlboss" and i would cheer. 😌✨
Hope you will love them too! 🧡
one of my favorite things about campaign 4 so far is that Hal is not just an actor, he's not just a writer- he's a DIRECTOR. bards can go in so many different directions, but it's so cool that Liam is representing the art and performance that goes into directing and crew work rather than performing on stage.
as someone who dabbled in acting in high school and college and did my stint on stage as ensemble and lead (still love lost in yonkers go watch it!), part of why i felt like i could get through the day during that difficult period of my life was knowing the directors could help guide me in the right direction. in order to direct a stage production, you have to know every element of it intimately and be able to see how all of it fits together- but you also have to know the people you're directing and help them communicate and facilitate how they step into the role.
so the c4e9 cold open where Hal is directing Lash on how to feel confidence in his role really spoke to me in terms of how bards are not just performers but leaders. he knows how to talk to people in a way that leads them to find their success on their own, by understanding their motivations or the circumstances they're in. it's such a cool dynamic, because compared to the others he's relatively quiet and that wasn't what i expected from a bard character, but in retrospect i'm pretty sure that quiet comes from the fact that he's observing- he's watching the circumstances play out like a show, keeping an eye on not just WHAT happens but HOW it happens. he's a gentle man, but it's clear that there is more behind the curtain, so to say. i can't wait to see where he goes from here.
If you fancy adding more scatological barbs to your Bard's repertoire, here are some of the ones that didn't make the cut for Baldur's Gate 3
They’d probably get along great.
A magic system where all the magic user types/schools are named after different groups/types of birds.
Because birdsongs… are the spells. And each species is capable to a weak extent of a unique form of magic. But they are grouped into related species as they have often very similar magic.
Humans then replicate these songs through voice and instruments. Empowering and modifying the minor natural magic of birds, with the power of group synchronized performances, instruments, and ingenuity.
Thus. World of bird themed bards. Who work in covens/bands called flocks.
Still working on the concept… but seamed fun.
After that conversation with Bolaire, I think that Hal might be a creation bard. His stories don’t just inspire people to love the world, but can even inspire objects to be more than what they’re made to be.
