I don’t care if “oh no it sucks it needs redone” or “it wasn’t working” NO. I guarantee that when you restart, even if it is going in a TOTALLY DIFFERENT DIRECTION, there is still something in your first draft that can contribute to the rewritten version. It’s easy when you’re frustrated to start going absolutely crazy with the backspace, but please, okay, I beg on my hands and knees, make a new tab and start rewriting THERE. Leave the first draft where it is, because somewhere in it is a paragraph, sentence, or even a word that can probably find a place in the new draft. And if you don’t end up revisiting the old draft, then it’s okay. I was wrong. But I literally beg you, do not delete it. Keep it. Rework it. Rearrange it. Reread it. Just because you aren’t happy with something doesn’t mean it should just get deleted into oblivion.
