A Scientist's Take on Byler
In honor of me finally joining Tumblr, I think it's only right that I offer my two cents when it comes to Byler proof.
We already have a lawyer and a fnaf theorist on our side, so how about a scientist? I won't reveal what kind of scientist I am, as it's specific enough that my paranoia tells me someone from my real life might recognize me. I can't have that.
So here's how I like to think about it:
I can't prove 100% that Byler will be endgame. Nobody can. But, I can prove the following:
Mike and Will have a closer relationship than any other pair of members in the original Party
Mike and El's relationship is not healthy
Mike has NEVER ONCE told El that he loves her to her face and without external pressure
Mike's season 4 monologue is full of lies and half truths when applied to El, but it is almost completely true when applied to Will
Mike and El's characters are diverging and to complete both of their character arcs, they will become incompatible with one another
Mike CONSISTENTLY shows more genuine affection toward Will than to El
The ONLY way for Mike's character to make sense throughout the whole show is for him to be exhibiting internalized homophobia
Mike is the most queercoded character on the show, even more than Will or Robin
El does not need to be in a relationship for her character arc to have a satisfying conclusion (in fact the opposite is true)
Mike and Will getting together would fit in better with the show's themes and messaging
If Byler is not endgame, it is 100% queerbaiting and possibly the most horrific instance of it ever
I would be happy to prove each of these things in scientific detail if people want to see it. It'll be a lot of arguments that have already been made, just reorganized. Either way, I am positive I can prove that Byler will probably be endgame even without relying on the kinds of arguments that usually get us called delusional (lighting, colors, costumes, cinematography, parallels to other media, etc).
And, given all of this, I can confidently say that if Byler is not endgame, the Duffers are objectively wrong and they had better run.
