one other thing that came up in the book that is mostly just relevant to me, guy whose fave was drafted by the baie-cameau drakkar, but a former coach of the team (jon goyens) said:

"you don't actually have a lot of entitled assholes going to baie comeau because a lot of people would refuse to play there. a lot."

it's a pulp and paper community, and the guys who usually end up playing there came from "salt of the earth" kinds of families that didn't want to come across as if they were too good to play there. & it is a tougher gig. because it's so far, they get far less practice time compared to more central teams that don't have to travel as far.

ive seen no love for skeptic harry du bois and i understand bc it seems like i missed a LOT of information and interesting stuff by ignoring shivers/inland empire/esprit de corps and i won't do that again next time BUT!!! playing the entire game as a version of harry who chalks everything up to withdrawal symptoms, ignores his instincts if he can't explain them and tries not to indulge himself... makes the ending so crazy. in a really wonderful way 🙂‍↔️
