It was getting easier, but it still felt difficult for Percy to talk to George. He wanted to mend their relationship. Percy had never particularly had much in common with George, but they were brothers. Percy wanted what was best for George, and he couldn’t quite imagine how hard losing Fred was on him, but he didn’t want to see it eat him alive. Percy was one to talk on dealing with the traumas of what had happened during the war, but that wasn't important.
❝Are you going to -- go back to work?❞ He asked, hesitantly.

❝Butterbeer’s on me. -- Or hell, get whatever you want. Firewhiskey’s on me too.❞ The corner of Percy’s mouth turned up into a smile. He knew that his siblings were still adjusting to the idea of him being back in their lives. It wasn’t that he was trying harder to win them over, it was just that Percy had changed. Well, not too much, because he hated change. Enough to let his sister have a glass of firewhiskey if she wanted. The last five months had been extremely difficult to get through for multiple reasons, but they were all suffering the same loss, the unwanted change. Through all of that, Percy did want to make an effort get close with his siblings again. He felt like he had missed Ginny growing up. So he made her promise to meet with him during some of her trips to Hogsmeade. Before Ginny could protest or be too shocked, Percy flagged down Madame Rosmerta for two glasses of Firewhiskey.

Finding a way to have genuine conversation without being mocked or scoffed at was difficult. Percy struggled with relating to his family even before he’d withdrawn from them. But he had missed so much over the last few years. He was going to need to give it a try. Especially since Ginny was his little sister and he’d practically missed her growing up.
❝How are classes?❞
It was a LAME question. He knew it. It was easier than ‘ How are you? ’ because it was too obvious that he and his family were still struggling after the war. So Percy fell into the default of what was comfortable conversation. It was a better place to start than nowhere.

Percy remembered what it was like to feel as if there was something to prove. He had two older brothers, both very popular and cool, and still got top grades. Aside from that, he always felt it necessary to set an example for his younger siblings too, even if they didn’t care. He could understand the pressure that Lucy was facing, being young and feeling like a bit of an outsider since there were many more Gryffindors in their family than any other house. She’d likely overheard her Uncle Ron threatening to disown Rose if she ended up in any house other than Gryffindor once or twice. Ron’s humor always was a bit insensitive.
❝Of course. Transfiguration happened to be my favorite and best subject. I’d be happy to help you.❞ He knew that receiving help from dad likely wasn’t what a preteen ( -- since when was his baby a preteen, ugh ) wanted to hear. ❝You’ll learn, Lucy. Some things just take more time than others. We all think differently. I spent half my time at Hogwarts in the library. Most of it was studying Herbology, believe it or not, that wasn’t my best subject. Plants just look like plants.❞ He offered up a smile, doing the best he could to cheer her up. ❝And if you don’t want any help from your dear old dad, I'm sure there are tutors that would be willing to help you.❞
