“...--- It’s still.” he paused, placing down his juice for what felt like the third time, still untouched. “feels complicated?” Though, even Zane felt like he was clinging to their history a little too much. Running into Zehra again was nothing like it usually had been, somewhere beneath the usual hesitation, he’d refused to accept it for exactly that this time. “No, that’s not right,” the laugh that settled lowly in his chest almost entirely unlike him but the truth was, something about the woman he thought of, and the trust he had in the one before him, made it far too easy to lose himself in his thoughts. “It’s the least complicated thing going on for me right now. I guess I just hope it’s the same for her.”

“Before you say anything.. I know, I know --- I’m the worst, why do I own a phone, you’ve missed so much.. yada yada.” She snapped up the drink tray before Maria could herself and lent a little way across it to obscure the distance occupied by the bar between them. “I’m sorry.. I’ve been busy and I know that’s no excuse, but I’m here now and I’m completely willing to suffer a little and help you close so..” She sighed heavily, offering one of her closest friends an amicable pout that almost begged forgiveness, “How about you catch me up on what’s been going on with you, put me to work and after? We get you something to eat, on me.”

Bushnell by María

When I was younger, I remember asking my mom to take me to the carousel. I would get to the park and run towards the carousel to get in line. As I waited, I watched the carousel go in circles until it was my turn.

Getting older, I found myself neglecting the carousel and park, but every now and again, I think of all the good times I had at Bushnell Park’s Carousel.

These memories inspired me to create a piece that incorporated the ride, the park, and the sense of home they once gave me.

The students of Hartford Prints! were asked to think about what it means to live in Hartford. They have created nine lovely prints that showcase the city in a positive way. The art will be up on the walls from March 15th to April 15th, but please come join us for the opening on Thursday March 18th!
