Words echoed around her as if she was falling into a deep chasm of fear. It was a feeling she knew all too well from her past, but she had never felt it around Evie. Evie was her rock, her safe place, and the one person on this Earth that she trusted above all. No matter what happened or what Mal did wrong -- Evie dealt with her stupidity. Evie didn’t deserve that, Mal didn’t deserve the kindness of it. Yet, that was what she had been blessed with -- until now it seemed.
“ I never learn? ” Mal replied finally, swallowing down fear and attempting to ignore the feeling that her leg would begin to shake if she sat still too long. She came here with the intent of sharing her fun little outing with Evie, but maybe it was a mistake. “ It seems you never learn, either. ”
