okay so the exile arc had always pissed me off because like.. it started because tommy and ranboo were fucking around and robbing/greifing george’s ( the guy who just. didn’t do lore ) house for a bit, something that could have been fixed in five minutes.

i used to always think that it was super unfair because it wasn’t meant to be a lore thing and it was just a cheap cop out to kick start the next arc. it was so unfair! but, thinking about it now, maybe that was purposeful, and if it was it was super clever.

by utilising the unique disconnect between serious lore vs out of character fucking around, they made it seem extra unfair from a meta standpoint, therefore putting us in c!tommy’s shoes and making us really feal the unjustness!! man, i love the dsmp....

What's the most cursed fanfiction you've read/heard of in the Criminal Minds fandom?

You probably want me to say something funny, but the serious answer is that there is a disturbing number of Hotch/Reid fics where Spencer is underage and it’s super romanticized, and I’d say all of those.

Personally (and I say this as a CSA survivor), I don’t think there’s anything wrong with writing fics that are about pedophilia as a topic, but if you’re writing a fic about a child and a pedophile, the pedophilic “relationship” should be a conflict/a trauma, not a romance.

You should show the negative impact it has on the child. You shouldn’t write graphic statutory rape scenes that read like regular, consensual sex between adult characters. You should show that other adults don’t approve of this “relationship” and see how harmful it is.

Basically, it should be abundantly clear that the adult is doing something disgusting and unacceptable that is hurting the child. We should not be rooting for the child and the pedophile to get together.

The reason I’m so insistent about this is that I think by writing fics where you (essentially) make the claim that a healthy relationship can exist between an adult and a child, you are normalizing it, to an extent.

Kids don’t understand how young and immature they are. I was 16 not super long ago—I didn’t see much of a difference between myself and an adult. If it’s on AO3, teenagers can get their hands on it VERY easily, and they’ll start to internalize this idea that 16 is almost 18 so really it’s basically fine, and I think that that really does open doors to a lot of grooming.
