Re that hamster post and your addition… sorry to be a Certified Downer but it does indeed sometimes feel like everything Jews are and do is seen through the lens of either the Holocaust, someone else’s religion (usually Christianity), or the Israeli government :/ Can’t we just have IBS and study Syrian hamsters in peace!! 😅
Yeah that checks out. I'm sorry you all have to deal with it
It reminds me of a book I really like, "a dark and drowning tide," where one of the main characters is fantasy Jewish and faces fantasy antisemitism in a country that's very fantasy German. The technology level is extremely mid-19th century. The masculine clothing described in the text is extremely mid 19th century (the feminine clothing is more fantastical and less historical; it was ever thus). Generally everything is screaming mid19th century, and the plot involves several formerly warring kingdoms that have all recently been unified under one monarch, into one country
As I was reading it, I immediately thought "oh, cool, it's the German unification of 1866 but fantasy!" I had to look up the exact year, but even without knowing that, I could tell what general time period inspired the book
...SO MANY of the GoodReads reviews talk about how it's supposedly a fantasy version of World War II/the Holocaust.
Like. Guys. Please.
