Wat are your Tsubasa thoughts? [Blinks at u cutely]
[spoilers for Boxes of Calamity, Killing Game, V'ehxness Route]
Tsubasa my fucking beloved.
I think my favorite thing about her is: my girl is fucking Paranoid, capital P. She copes with stress by keeping herself busy, we see that several times & at one point she explicitly says as much... and she's also a problem-solver, extremely solution oriented. This combination of traits makes her do absolutely crazy shit.
Like Nozomi, Tsubasa is always very vocal about not wanting to doubt her friends or assume anyone is an enemy... but quietly, in the background, she don't trust like that. She's microchipping Ima's food, she's making a remote to detonate everyone's bombs (MULTIPLE TIMES), she's lying about how much time she needs to scan fingerprints, she's filling a secret bunker with weapons... Tsubasa is always preemptively preparing for worst case scenarios, often for her own self-protection. I would not be surprised if her nausea was just an underlying symptom of a severe anxiety disorder.
Yet, her paranoia is really subtle because she's so normal in basically all other aspects. She's so well-adjusted. I often see her described as the Nice Normal Girl character—but she's sooo fucking unhinged, just very well-functioning despite it (other than, y'know, the stress-induced vomiting). And that just makes her paranoia more realistic, bc when you're paranoid you Don't Want People Knowing.
And then there's V'ehxness Route. Where that paranoia is validated, because she's made to sacrifice herself for No Conceivable Reason (despite 2 willing volunteers, and Takumi never being able to explain himself). That whole route, she's quietly simmering. Extremely resentful, undeniably betrayed. Tsubasa is ready and willing to kill her friends across countless routes (I think I've seen her kill 4 different people so far... #queen) but the time she stabs Takumi through has felt the best. Because everything had been building up to it—Takumi was willing to sacrifice her to save everyone, so she's justified in sacrificing him. A petty revenge for a route-long grudge, made better by the fact that if she was worried he might betray her again, she's right. He was really thinking about it. Her paranoia is proven right once again.
(God I love V'ehxness Route. It could have been so fucking good with slower pacing, not backpedaling Taubasa's determination at the last second, and being more normal about women.)
