This is everything that happened to Bain during the gap between when he was captured to his breakout. Finally, I’m gonna tell everyone about my research on this…what? Of course I did it because I’m a writer and for no other reason!

Garrett’s emails say that there was a place that got systematically attacked in downtown D.C. This is where Bain was. They found ruined electronics and a lot of blood on the scene… we can assume then, that Bain suffered heavy bullet wounds whilst being captured, judging by the sound of gunshots in the background of his final message (in Reservoir Dogs)
In Henry’s Rock you briefly see Bain being tortured by the Dentist on a screen to your left in the final hallway. The picture it shows? It’s in a different room than the one in the breakout heist. In fact, you can’t find this room anywhere! A room with chains hanging from the ceiling, plus it looks like only his hands are tied up? We assume that Bain was somewhere else before he was transferred to Hell’s Island.
Just how long was he in there for?
Well, the PAYDAY 2 storyline went alongside real-time heist releases. Reservoir Dogs happened happened on 12/14/17 while Hell’s Island? Occurred on 10/26/18.
Bain was tortured by the Dentist for over ten months.
In-game dialogue supports this. Locke says that Kataru had their hands on him for “far too long.” Bain himself says “what the #### took you guys so long…?”
Character model shows a lot. His outfit is different than what he would normally wear, clothes changed from being ruined? Six seven of his fingernails are missing, and there’s a weird wrapping around his ring and pinkie finger on the right(?) side. Just the presence of gauze suggests that someone had to have patched him up. (Though I wrote this part from memory, I’m gonna have to check to see if that’s correct. I’ll edit if not)
UPDATE 2: some of his toenails are gone too but I’m not sure how many
His face is also littered with purple bruises. You might think that it’s from his fight with Kataru but no. They would’ve been a bright red if that were the case! Yellow-greenish bruises are older but purple ones happened within a day or two. He suffered blunt force trauma at the hands of his captors, I’m guessing by punching/beating? That might’ve been Kento, the Dentist doesn’t strike me as the type to resort to that. (Sorry that’s not funny)
WE ACTUALLY SEE THE TORTURE CHAMBER ITSELF. On your way to the roof (the room before the final staircase) you see…an electric chair. Yes, there is a plug and a lever, complete with straps.
Not just that, but there is two gallons of Caustic Soda present in the chamber. Sodium Hydroxide is a strong base, and causes severe chemical burns. It was probably used, as the trash can there is full of metal trays.
(Maybe the Dentist used a scalpel to stab out his eye?)
To add insult to injury, there’s also a camera pointed at the chair itself. A big glass panel separates the torture room from a viewing chamber with twelve fourteen chairs. This is complete with a snack bar adjacent to that viewing room, with popcorn and coffee…the Dentist’s colleagues were likely watching Bain get tormented.
This is an entire slew of psychological issues, like having negative attention after years of killing anyone who so much as glimpsed his face.
And still, even after all that, he refused to sell out his crew. Bain spent TEN months in a torture chamber with the Dentist (a creepy, disgusting man) and never once did he betray the protagonists!
He only cared about getting his team to safety during Reservoir Dogs?? “Gotta get you guys outta there“ then “Be careful, guys—“ In one particular voice line (Hell’s Island) he says, “I knew you guys would come for me.”
In fact, one of his last words to them in White House was that he was proud…
Why did Bain run away from you in Hell’s Island? It wasn’t like he didn’t know that his team came for him, you hear him talking directly to them.
Well he says things about hoping that they had an extraction plan, he likely knew that a boat/helicopter were the only methods of escape for him. He probably went ahead of his crew so that 1. they wouldn’t have to escort him and 2. to protect them. I mean just LOOK at how many he killed??
Then apparently the adrenaline faded when he reached the roof, that or he felt safe with his crew present which I— ; ;
UPDATE 1: HE IS STILL AWAKE WHEN LOCKE IS CARRYING HIM. He has voice lines for them too!! The clear ones where there’s heavy breathing. Muffled ones you hear through the wall and loud ones are things he says before collapsing.
I honestly can’t get why some players downright hate Bain. I understand people disliking him but hatred? He hasn’t done anything to you to deserve it. Did you guys hear his stealth voice lines? Those are the most endearing sentences I’ve heard in this game, ever.
Anyway so stan Bain, he is the best character no cap. Sorry but I can NOT handle this dude’s voice lines! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Bain is half my inhibition and all of my motivation. At the time of writing I’m almost Infamy VI.
