on a stormy sunday night, ingrid woke up covered in sweat and short of breath. she subsequently fainted and a doctor was called - it was determined that she suffered a heart attack and would have to be on bedrest for a while. this upset ingrid, as she was worried for her pregnant sister's ability to upkeep the house all by herself, but helga was nothing but happy to for once care for her hardworking older sister.

a fresh start.
helga and ingrid lammi were born to a well-off family of milliners in a small finnish town. the sisters' futures shined bright - the elder, ingrid, surprised no one when she married the son of an earl, karl ehrling. the couple had a daughter, ida, in 1889 before setting off to england to a recently deceased uncle's estate, which karl had inherited.
helga, unlike her sister, had no plans to marry - she dreamed of becoming a renowned singer and performer. when the time came for ingrid to set off to england, helga decided to tag along to run from her parents' constant offers of suitors one after another.
sadly, an epidemic of typhoid fever struck the ship and karl passed in 1890 only months after the arrival of their second daughter, sigrid. upon arriving to the town of brindleton bay, the new widow found herself with a large estate to upkeep with limited funds along with two young children and a rowdy sister.
will the sisters be able to provide for their family and rise up the ranks of brindleton society, or will the struggles of life bring them down?
matteo showed up at the ehrling estate's front door on a cloudy sunday, much to helga's delight - she begged for him to rethink, to marry and raise this child together, thinking this was why he had returned.
he, however, had only come back to tell helga to stop contacting him, that he was leaving the country, never to be seen again. he then chewed her out, calling her all sorts of vulgar names, which ingrid quickly came to put a stop to.
matteo then left the estate for a final time, the sisters now having come through their past differences. they were sure they could make it on their own, despite money being tight due to neither of them being able to work during the time of helga's pregnancy.
while bathing, ingrid took to considering her ailing health and how it will affect helga and the children. she wasn't sure if helga could care for them, let alone provide for them by herself, as much as she tried. however, there was no question that ingrid would have to retire soon, and if she was unlucky, even die.
ingrid loved her job at the schoolhouse - especially now with her daughters attending. ida was a very attentive student, doing her work conscientiously, while sigrid was more focused on the social side of school, loving to play with the other children.
