soon after helga's leaving came the twins' thirteenth birthdays! they grew up into very different but still very close young people.
helga arrived to brindleton just a few days later, with ida immensely excited and the others less so, feeling very lied to.
Dearest Albert and Lydia,
I have sadly received word of Ingrid's passing and will be returning to Brindleton as soon as possible. I hope you all are faring well - it isn't easy losing your mother.
I have something to tell you which your mother and I decided to keep secret until you were old enough to understand. I know this will be especially hard to take now that she is gone, but the truth has to be told.
I am your birth mother. Your father and I had a brief romance which resulted in your conception, after which he refused to marry me or be in contact with me in any way. Ingrid came up with the plan to raise you as her own, and although I wished to keep you all to myself, I agreed for both of your future's sakes.
I do not expect you to accept me as your mother right away or denounce Ingrid as your mother in the slightest. She is the one who raised you, after all, and should not be blamed for this.
I look forward to seeing you again,
Your mother, Helga
ingrid anneke ehrling suffered a heart attack on a calm morning in 1897. a doctor was called, but sadly, nothing could be done as the heart attack was fatal. she died surrounded by her children, dearly loved and deeply missed by all.
only days later, the roses showed up on the ehrling estate's door, announcing that helga would be welcomed as their newest member if she only wished to join. she, of course, accepted immediately!
it was now time to say her goodbyes to the family, but most importantly to her sister. helga was sure her sister would make it on her own, but told her to contact her immediately if something were to come up. ingrid just laughed, thinking her sister's worry was needless.
the children, although sad to see their beloved aunt go, were happy for her. especially pleased was ida, who admired her aunt immensely.
with that, helga was gone.
later on christmas eve, the family decorated a tree arturo had chopped down for them from the local forest and spent some time together, sharing gifts and singing christmas carols. ♡
