Agent Stone has never actually worked as an agent; his experience with his first first name was so bad that when it came to changing it, he chose something that he could detach himself from as needed.
He was also young enough to think becoming a secret agent was both a realistic dream and the coolest thing ever, and he didn't have any loving parents to steer him in another direction. Or any parents. At all.
His younger self was surprisingly not wrong about secret agent being a realistic dream, but once he got that offer, Stone was so done with following orders that he didn't take it. The job had seemed a lot cooler when he was a child than it did now, when he had blood on his hands after years in the army.
Falling back on something he was good at, Stone decided to become a barista. Taking orders were not the same as following them, and rush hour was nothing compared to being in an active war zone.
It was admittedly a lot more boring than risking his life.
He couldn't help being something of an adrenaline junkie, and there was only so much his long list of tried hobbies could do.
Still, he should have thought twice before interrupting a kidnapping. Not that he regretted saving Doctor Robotnik from having to wait to be rescued, but he couldn't get rid of the man afternoon.
Introducing himself as Agent had been a mistake; he should have left it at Stone.
Although Robotnik's job offer did sound a lot more exciting than remaining a barista...
