🍊 watching a live streamed genocide is difficult and traumatising. but yknow what’s infinitely worse? living in the heart of that genocide, and having to broadcast the worst moments of your life in a desperate attempt to convince the world to see you as a human being. don’t look away. that’s how oppressors get even more powerful. it’s hard, i know. it’s painful. it’s tiring. it’s also nothing at all compared to what palestinians are going through.

Something crucial about the north of ireland today imo is that in the interests of peace or whatever you have to pretend that loyalism is just a subculture in the same way that, like, gaeilgeoirí are a subculture, and that yearly demonstrations of hatred and racism and singing about being up to your knees in fenian blood are just ‘their culture’ and you have to respect it. and then predictably the people whose culture is burning minorities out of their houses burn minorities out of their houses, and the newspapers pontificate a little as to why, and then we all go back to being told we have to hold hands with the people who did it or the troubles 2 will start TOMORROW and you can’t complain or you’re being sectarian and living in the past

Obviously irish people can be crazy racist too but it's kind of grating every time northern irish loyalists do something heinously evil and then the finger somehow gets pointed at republicans in such a way that prevents understanding or action against either irish OR british fascism while the actual culprits continue to completely get off without any mass condemnation. the ballymena riots are sickening but listen to me, everyone, the people you're wanting to fight with regards to irish fascism are Not the ones waving union flags and screaming no surrender, I think that many of you are only pretending to know about the north of ireland,

Like, we are talking about a place which did equally violent pogroms against catholics during the troubles and is mostly inhabited by descendants of ulster's colonising planter class. racists on both sides of the border should have their heads blown off but it's simply prohibiting of one's understanding of the current unrest to equate the ballymena violence with, like, the racism of "the irish" as most people here seem to understand them because half of the rioters would gladly turn their violence on anyone who identifies them with that label. and have done so, repeatedly, in the past. idk
