Not being a professional actor. I had no technique to fall back on. I think I closed my eyes. Yonoi was feeling both the greatest joy and the greatest humiliation, and he had to endure all of it, so I closed my eyes tight. Then Oshima said - probably the only time he gave me direction - “You should keep your eyes open.”
