mike ross's moral grappling is very fun and interesting.
i don't think the show explores it well. he works for a big, wealthy firm whose clients are predominantly billionaire companies which inherently means they're the fucking worst. i think the show mostly shies away from this reality. it's scared to make any kind of statement in that regard and so it ignores that component. which vastly reduces what it can explore. it tries to pretend these billionaires are all good and fine ppl. the moral dilemmas they explore can't be "wow, every single client we are responsible for is exploitative and legally skirting around every loophole for profit at everyone else's expense".
the closest they get is ava hessington. but she's evil b/c she's a presumed murderer and briber not because she's a billionaire with a company. but imo this exploration is very superficial and not complex because they quickly pivot to "oh jk she actually didnt kill all those ppl and actually shes A Good Billionaire (lol) because she didn't bribe ppl for oil rights like all the other Bad Billionaires did".
in s4 they attempt to make mike face a moral lawyerly dilemma but it's so silly. "oh no, mike has to be kind of mean to his billionaire client and tell him he can't expand his company and has to spend that money on his employees instead if he wants the company to remain intact and that means mike is kind of going back on his word. oh no, how morally evil of him" and the show frames this as mike having the stomach for being this Tough Guy lawyer when it was his only option left and he didn't intend to put the client in that position.
i think it's soooo juicy that mike willingly works for a law firm that has Objectively Evil/Billionare clients (the show will never have the balls to say that) despite having relatively strong, empathic morals that object to these people. i think his genius intellect allows him to make the best out of the scenarios (e.g. get the client what they want while also trying to not fuck over the little guy(s) and perhaps even help them) but i want to see him have to grapple with that reality more. he is helping stupidly rich ppl get richer. and he does it because it is fun. because it scratches an intellectual itch in his brain. each case is a legal puzzle he wants to solve and win. even if morally he disagrees/hates it (does heee).
