some people have this preconceived notion that when you study classics you’ll look at really awesome and incredible things and while that IS true sometimes you will just study the most bullshit thing in existence. a guy got blinded in battle without being in contact with the enemy and then someone else claimed there was like a 9ft tall super scary ghost with a beard that was just There on the Battlefield and THATS why the dude got blinded and Herodotus (the first ever historian) was like Yeah Sounds Legit and wrote it down. all for me to tear my hair out over it a few thousand years after because i have to memorise that. like for an exam. The Super Scary Bearded Ghost is critical to my future education.
