honestly tbh i headcanon that forrest, at this point in his life. he’s kind of been getting a little bit better about the whole temper thing ? like it’s always been sort of improving, but it’s only within like the past couple of years or so that he maybe feels like he has at least a modicum of self control… so i think like… i think forrest kind of uses spirit to gauge whether or not he is getting better ? because its no secret that he has gotten mad around her in the past and has terrorized her in the past – at first it was because he couldn’t really stop himself, but like. it’s sort of been shifting from. i can’t stop myself from hurting her, to like, maybe i can stop myself, maybe i can’t, but the idea that i can makes me keep hanging around just to see
