psych 6.04 | The Amazing Psych-Man & Tap Man, Issue #2
Man, Kubo and the Two Strings is a nearly perfect film with ONE BIG FUCKIN' WALLOP OF ABLEISM RIGHT AT THE FILM'S EMOTIONAL CLIMAX that makes you go "wait wait no wait that can't be right"
I just-- I can't even begin to understand why we as a society still need to equate blindness with ignorance and clear vision with a person's humanity.
Like, y'all know people in real life are blind, right? Visual impairment isn't just a metaphor. Blind people are real and they hear your stories too, for fuck's sake.
okay so i can't figure out how to word this in a fic way or really make my thoughts. coherent. so please enjoy this bullet point kinda fic of a Mice & Murder Psych AU.
Buckster $ Boyd is an exceptionally smart young man. He notices so many things all at once some people even think he's magic. He, of course, knows that he isn't magic. He's just the son of a conman, who's raising him to carry on the family tradition of swindling. Boyd is good at it, almost too good at it. His dad wasn't as nice as soon as he was better than him at his own game.
When Buckster was in high school, his dad was run out of Texas, and he ran all the way to Santa Barbara, CA, taking Boyd with him. He set up shop all over again, pulling his usual tricks, but this time he pulled them a whole hour away. Boyd was home on his own a lot. For the first time ever, his classmates weren't a way for his dad to get to their parents. They could actually be friends. Boyd wasn't very good at making friends.
Thankfully, Lars Vandenchomp was great at making friends. They loved having friends! A lot of the kids they went to school with didn't get them though, or wrote them off as being a dumb jock. But Boyd didn't. Boyd saw and ally in Lars. Lars may have been and tough, but they were smart. They could see strategies, and exit strategies, like nobody's business. And Boyd liked that in a business partner. So. That's how the friendship of Lars and Boyd was born.
Their friendship survives a surprising amount. Boyd's dad eventually gets arrested, and he temporarily lives with the Vandenchomps. Boyd's kind a bastard, but Lars keeps him from stealing from the poor, and instead they both steal from the rich. Lars had never really considered higher education and option, and it wasn't really Boyd's style, so they jumped around "dead-end" jobs until they found the perfect place. A high end bar filled with obnoxious fratboys ready to spend daddy's money and groups of old businessmen. Lars, the bouncer, and Boyd, the bartender and professional smooth talker. Their "victims" practically hand themselves over. And hey, they only steal from the ones rude to the waitstaff.
One day, on the news, Boyd sees someone go to jail and he knows they didn't do it. The police must be incompetent, how did they miss everything that he's seeing? He announces to Lars that he's going to the police station, and he's going to show up every cop in the place. Lars thinks it's a bad idea "Boyd we steal from people all the time" and Boyd says, "yeah exactly, this is the perfect cover for us to keep doing our shit" so he takes his ass to the police station, and solves a crime. The police are intrigued. He loves the attention.
And that's how Boyd, Psychic Detective is born. And Lars, his long suffering friend and business partner. It's also, how they meet Detective Cross, and Chief D'umpstaire. They solve crimes using Lars' brawn and brain, Boyd's bastard ways and his brain, and with the help of their criminal friends (like Gangie Green). Ian Prescott is an investigative journalist who follows their every move, and even solves a few cases before they do.
so the breakdown is: shawn -> buckster, lars -> gus (kinda), chief vick -> daisy, lassiter -> sylvester, juliet (kinda) -> ian prescott, gangie is in a league of his own but maybe a henry type?
