Lili and Aleksandr had just finished enjoying a marvelous performance of Swan Lake, and were walking back to his car together. Unfortunately, they had been forced to park a little ways away, but it didn’t bother them too much. Arm-in-arm, they chatted quietly about how much they had enjoyed the show as they walked down the dark path.
That was when it happened. A man burst out from the corner, holding a gun, demanding money, of course. Neither of them, however, was really willing to give in, due to their pride. Lili stepped forward, opening her mouth to tell the man to leave. That was when he panicked and shot. Lili flinched, on instinct, but felt confusion when she felt nothing. The confusion left her as the tall Russian close to her slumped into her arms with a soft groan.
She caught him, and saw the dark stain spreading on his dress shirt. “S-sasha,” she stuttered softly. When she looked up, she saw that the criminal had fled. She gritted her teeth, wanting to hunt him down. But a hand on hers made her change her mind, and her gaze turned back to her boyfriend.
“Just…just let him go. Stay with me, please. I want to see you when I wake up again.”
Her lip trembled, and she nodded, cradling him to her chest as she knelt to make it easier for both of them. “I’ll stay, I promise. Sasha, I’m…I’m so sorry. If I had just—”
She stopped when she saw him weakly shake his head. “Please…don’t say that, Lilichka. I love you.”
“I love you too,” she whispered. She continued to hold him, and hold back her tears, as she waited for him to wake up again.
