She’d only nodded and encouraged him to keep going when he paused, and she was listening but at some point her subtle clenching and unclenching of her fist was no longer subtle. Isla eventually goes rifling through her bag and takes out a clear cigarette box with pink hand rolled cigs in it. “Do you mind if I smoke? I’ll share it with you if you want.” She has not, in fact, specified what kind of smoking she means.

the demon looks as if his hackles were raised in defense, the shadows ripple as they flank him. ‘ what do you want? ’

rest. he's always telling her to be at peace. and, as easy as it is, to nestle into his warmth and lose the world, she can't help but want the same for him.

despite knowing just how stubborn he can be about his own well being.

half-hooded gaze sweeps the expanse of the master bedroom cloaked in moonlight. brunette waves tucked against a scarred, chiseled torso.

a knowing smile as his arm shifts, bringing her closer against him. though there wasn't much space in the beginning.

‘ habibi. ’ she chides, though lowly. ‘ you should be sleeping. ’

the tamaranean lands beside the red hood, a glance over her shoulder, concern etching over her features. ‘ you're okay? ’

the vampire knows that ryuu is displaying a significant amount of trust in her, because he agreed to let her feed from him. there have been times where she rebuffed such notions because she didn't want to hurt him.

or worse.

and being without him wasn't something she was willing to risk. he meant too much, far too much, something she thought she'd never have in her lifetimes.

yet, he's there, he's warm. the hunger prickles at the back of her throat. her grip tightens slightly, breath a warm whisper against his ear.

‘ promise me you'll stop me when you've had enough. ’ a dusted kiss to his throat, before sharp fangs sink into his collarbone.

𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐊𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃𝐋𝐘 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐀 𝐅𝐋𝐔𝐒𝐇 𝐎𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐄𝐊𝐒 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆, Isla fans her face with her hand. “— so in his enthusiasm I slipped and landed ass first on his bath faucet.” She pulls a face. “But that wasn’t the worst part. He started crying and screaming ‘where is it where is it!’ ‘cause he thought the faucet broke off in my...” another pointed expression. “So I, bleeding profusely, had to calm him down, stuff three pads between my cheeks, borrow a pair of his sweats and a tshirt because my clothes got soaked from his thrashing about in the bathroom, and drive myself to the ER. And when I got there, they thought he was the one who needed help.”

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐈𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐒 𝐇𝐀𝐒 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐏𝐄𝐍 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐁𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐈𝐍 𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐎 𝐁𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐃 𝐎𝐍𝐄-𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐃𝐋𝐘, and Isla has been reading The Drowned Crane by Juniper Lind during her commutes for the last week and a half and was almost on the last quarter. She’d have read the thing in one sitting if she hadn’t had a busy week of travel and work to attend to. As it stands she’s reading while she’s walking, taking as much of her free time as she has to engross herself back into the record this journalist had made of her experience in Uganda. 

Despite her quick reflexes and the attention she paid to the sidewalk in her periphery, another woman steps out into the sidewalk and Isla cannot navigate out of the way. They collide and a coffee cup goes flying. Isla gives an alarmed squeak and holds her book out of the way, jumping back at the coffee slams into the sidewalk and splashes in a big beige puddle. “Oh my gosh, I am so sorry!” Isla exclaims, looking up at the woman with an expression of embarrassment and apology on her face. “Let me get you another...” that expression on her face melts away into total surprise when she lays on the woman she’s just run into.
