But as far as this hell fandom is concerned mentally ill characters are only cool if they can be your quirky waifu (I mean, I like Chidori and Futaba as much as the next person, but let's be real here)

For real. They say that people who love the heck out of Goro were ‘set on liking him just because he’s pretty’. Bitch, I hated him for a while in my first run, up until some time after Futaba’s Palace (and Okumura’s when I began to warm to him). It took time for me to get to the bottom of his character, and you won’t fully understand what made him tick the first time anyway. That’s the whole point of characters like that.

Heaven forbid certain mental illness and vulnerability is portrayed as what it is - something that warps cognition and actions in a way that’s consistent with manipulation and trauma, in this case. In other words- not pretty. But apparently people only like victims when they can box them cleanly in the ‘innocent victim’ box and be done with it.

Which is.. gosh, everyone else on the friggin PT.

Day 4 - Books (Jasander)

Okay, this was a bit tricky, especially since my headcanon Jasper hates reading, and it's his turn to have a narrative following him.  But ah well, it's still there, it still exists.  Sorry about that.

He swore that the next time Lysander tried to do extra work he would tie him to the bed.  By his balls.  Upside down.  Yet here he was, sitting cross legged by the fire, wrapped in about five blankets and with a cup of hot chocolate next to him, which was already cooling in the seemingly subzero air.  Jasper shivered for the umpteenth time and reached under his pile of blankets to retrieve another sip of his lukewarm drink.  Fucking hell he was bored!  But the watch in his jacket pocket said it was not yet midday: at least three hours before his boyfriend should be coming back.  He leant back onto the soft plush mound and shut his eyes.  No, he still wasn’t tired.  He reopened his eyes.  A small rectangular silhouette caught his attention from its throne on an easy chair.  Quickly the skylord shot out his arm and grabbed the box shape.  It was a tattered and dog eared copy of a fabric bound book.  Even squinting in the firelight, Jasper couldn’t make out the faded and worn gold print over the silky blue cover; he opened the front.  Lysander’s name was written in slightly childish, but still neat cursive on the inside of the front cover.  It must’ve been years old; Lysander always wrote his title before his name, ever since he had earned it.  Jasper flicked over to the first page.

“Oh,” he muttered, “Bloody poetry?  Well this is going to be shit.”  It wasn’t to anyone in particular, but nonetheless at least it filled the blank, boring room with something.  Rolling his eyes, Jasper began to leaf through the book, barely reading the text.  Boring, boring, boring.  Love poem, war poem, descriptive poem, philosophical poem, they were already starting to blur together in the man’s mind.  “Wait a second,” he thought, turning back a page.  There was more cursive text, this time dutifully written in superscript above one of the poems.  Jasper readjusted himself in his nest of wool to read what the young Lysander had adjusted.

Yet again she smiles to me

Then once more she speaks to me;

HerHis breaths are heavy in my ear,

HerHis voice silent, just I can hear

HerHis quiet, little lies of love.

That was it?  Oh, come on!  Now past Lysander was just being a bitch!  Wait, there was a little note along the side of the page.

I’ll never understand why people write notes to themselves, but I suppose I can try.  Future me, I hope you don’t forget your first love.  If you already are not aware of whom I reference, then I am sorry that I will grow up to be you.  Please don’t say you’ve forgotten him! ~Lysander

P.S.  I chose this page, as I’m sure even in the future I’ll adore this poem.

Jasper slammed the cover of the book shut and chucked it back onto the armchair.

“Be careful with that, you bastard!” hissed a voice from above him.  Great, now would be a fucking perfect time for Lysander to be home of course!

“Why did you even write that in there, except to be a fucking tease?!” growled Jasper in response, half yelling.

“Well, it worked, didn’t it?” grinned the blue coated skylord, collapsing on the armchair and picking up the book again, his partner climbing up onto his lap and smothering him with blankets.

“What?”

“I gave you something to do, something to find!” said the exasperated Lysander, flipping through to the page Jasper had ripped slightly by closing the book so forcefully.  The red jacketed man looked at Lysander in disbelief.

“That wasn’t a real note to yourself,” he stated, finally realising that the cursive was far too neat and the ink not faded enough to be written either hastily, or long ago.  Lysander shook his head.  “Damn it!  Here’s me deciding you were some wannabe spy when you were little, and changing things in a fucking poetry book!”  He punched Lysander softly in the stomach, turned back away and crossed his arms like a child in a tantrum.  Why wasn’t Lysander interesting even when he was young?
