reasons you should take the time to make an ao3 account if you read there frequently (or at all really, see the 5th bullet point):

Bookmarks: saving stories you like, you can leave notes about the stories and can set the bookmark as private (only you can see it), or public (everyone can see it), as well as marking it as a recommendation for anyone looking at your profile.

Subscriptions: get updates (via email) when an author, series, or work you’ve subscribed to updates (no more needing to check back every so often)

Access to works marked only for readers with accounts (many authors are doing this recently (good for them) to combat AIs stealing stories to sell as books or training)

ao3 is working to implement a blocking feature, i know it may not be as prominent if you only read but still, its there.

lastly, and i cannot stress this one enough: There Is a Dark Mode. you can read fanfiction in Dark Mode. stop killing your eyes people, make an account.

you don’t need to post things, you don’t need to comment (be aware that authors absolutely love when anyone comments, though) or use your account to publicly interact in any way.

you don’t even need to use an email you usually use, make a quick new one (dont forget it so you can see updates to anything you subscribe to), you can be as active or inactive as you want.

you dont need to use the bookmarks or subscriptions or read account-only stories or post anything but please for the love of everything, at least USE THE DARK MODE. google how to turn it on, ask me in the comments or a reblog. stop killing your eyes, if they die you can’t read anymore fanfiction.

(or don’t, i cant tell you what to do but i highly suggest it, even if it’s just for the dark mode)

(at least put in the invitation thing, they take a couple weeks to go through, the earlier you put it in the better)
