Finished sculpture of Goumang from Nine Sols. She's made almost entirely of earthenware, and painted with acrylics.
I made a post a few weeks ago detailing the base sculpt of this project; I go more into the thought process behind this project in that post. Linked here. Photos abound under the cut.
Greys and reds are always nice to work with. Pretty forgiving colors. And grey, black, white, salmon-red, and gold and silver make for quite a nice combo. Put that on a contrasting geometrical context of blues and greens, and you're onto something.
Her legs are a strange sort of greyish lilac in the official art, but I changed that into a metallic silver here. I didn't like how the original color was looking in combination with how everything else was shaping up. I like how this looks.
Weird bird feet. Fun to sculpt. I particularly liked the ball-joints in the middle of her legs.
The chair was honestly a bit of a hassle, and much less fun than the actual figure. I'll most likely be crafting components like this in the future instead of sculpting them. I like how it ended up looking alright, though.
The overall gesture was one of the best parts of this thing to work on. Working the facial expression in to the body language was a big part of how the thing came together. I imagined her villainous dialogue prior to her fight with Yi as a main inspiration. Fun working on a scale this small, as always. The entire head is around four centimeters across.
The headpiece was pretty fun. The process was awkward, but gold paint is always fun to work with. I like how sharp this ended up. Very satisfying to stick this thing on at the end.
Enjoy, Nine Sols appreciators! This was a very fun one. I may well end up making more Nine Sols pieces in the future. I have a couple different things in the works for now, but I still think of sculpting Eigong and others relatively regularly. As always, do tell if you've got ideas.
