I would like to preface this with I struggle putting my thoughts into words and I deeply apologize if anything comes off wrong, it is not my intention in the slightest.
I think there needs to be a discussion, or at least rather a mass reflection in the LIOMOQAI communities about nuance, or the lack there of. I will be the first to admit that I am guilty of this as well, we all are. Black and white thinking is common amongst all beings, but especially those with neurodivergencies.
Long post ahead
On its own, black and white thinking is not inherently "bad" or "wrong", its a common trait amongst many disorders — and equating symptoms of disorders as "wrong" is harmful in itself — however it often leads to (unintentional) harm of individuals, groups, etc. When you approach a matter with a lack of nuance (black and white thinking) it leads to a shallower understanding. There are very few — arguably if any — issues, concerns, discussions, etc, that are totally black and white in nature; majority of issues in society are very grey (nuanced)
I won't name anything in particular as I believe that is something you should work on to recognize, but its something I unfortunately see a lot of. It's no one's fault, in todays society we are encouraged to pick a "side" and form opinions even if we have little education on the situation at hand. We are rushed into forming an opinion as quickly as possible for the convenience of others, we are pressured into certain opinions through peer pressure, unfair claims, name calling, targeted harassment, and much more. It leads to opinions formed through fear rather than actual understanding.
Often times good faith discussions are shut down because it requires a nuanced approach, which is a pattern used in many forms of oppression to curb resistance. Conversations held in good faith about nuanced topics are some of the most important things we can do, but they're rare to see due to push back against them.
There's much more to be said on this matter, but I encourage you all to reflect on this yourselves and expand on this post. This is not an issue that's fixed in a day, a week, or even a month — its something the community needs to put an active effort towards over time. When seeing discourse and similar discussions I encourage you to take a step back, think, and perhaps do some research on your own before forming an opinion. You do not need to quickly form opinions on anything, and the expectation to do so will only harm us further.
Thank you for reading if you made it this far, and I hope this will spark some change. Do not take this as an attack, as it is not meant to be. I, too, struggle with this and I hope I will also grow alongside you all.
