Kenna Story~
She hadn’t felt this type of love in so long...
It had been a week since KC and Jenna became parents. Jenna had carried that baby for around nine months, even if she didn’t know it or want to know it for the first few months. She did though and he could never imagine having to carry another little person in his belly for nine months. He hadn’t really showed her the appreciation she deserved. First he left her right when he found out she was going to keep the baby and then once they got back together he hadn’t really done his best to be prepared or help Jenna with anything baby related. KC knew he hadn’t been the best boyfriend lately but, he wanted to make it up to her. He was so proud of her and she deserved to be treated right. KC’s mom cooked them chicken and a salad for dinner which oddly enough she didn’t ruin. She grabbed her purse and headed for the front door “Remember to take the chicken out when timer goes off!” She yelled as she was walking out. “Okay!” He yelled back. Once she was gone he walked over to the kitchen counter where his phone was sitting and dialed Jenna’s number. “Hey cutie!” She answered. “Hey MILF.” He chuckled. Jenna giggled and said “Hey that makes me sound like an old person KC!!” He laughed. “Tell Kyle to drop you off now.” KC demanded. “KC you know I can’t come over. I have to watch Emilie and Kyle has work. Why don’t you come over here?” KC could tell Jenna was stressed. “Just go ask. I’ve already talked to Kyle he took the night off to watch Emilie for us.” KC explained. He didn’t give her any time to respond, “See you in 15 minutes.” KC hung up.
Jenna smiled to herself as she heard the click on the other end of the phone. KC had never really been one for romantic gestures, so the fact that he had asked Kyle to take off work was surprising to her. “Kyle?” she called from her room. He popped his head out from behind his bedroom door, adjacent to hers. “You ready to go?” he asked with a smirk. He must have heard their conversation. Jenna sighed and took a look at herself in the mirror; it was not the prettiest sight. She had been living in sweatpants and old Degrassi cheer t-shirts since she was allowed to take that gaudy hospital gown off. “Um, give me a moment,” she called, before closing the door and rifling through her closet for something “presentable”. She could hear Emilie begin to stir in her crib, and she winced a little at the thought of leaving her alone for the night. Choosing an outfit, she slipped it on (with some difficulty) before hoisting Emilie into her arms. The baby cooed in response. Jenna opened the door and immediately began spouting out instructions for Kyle. “Her diapers are in the bathroom under the sink, and the extra formula is on the bottom shelf of the fridge. When she cries and it’s really high pitched, it usually means she’s hungry, and she’ll probably be hungry in a few hours because I fed her about three hours-” Kyle interrupted her mid-sentence, “I’ve got it under control, Jenna. The car seat is already set up in the car, let’s head out.” Jenna sighed a little before smiling again as she smoothed her hand through Emilie’s light hair. The car ride was short, and when she arrived at KC’s apartment she felt a pang of guilt and sadness for leaving her baby with someone else, even if it was only for a few hours. She placed a gentle kiss on Emilie’s forehead, before waving goodbye to Kyle and heading towards the complex.
KC was sitting on the couch waiting when he heard a knock on the door. He smiled knowing he was about to see Jenna. He walked over and opened the door. Jenna looked like she hadn’t slept. Even when she was tired and in her pajama’s she looked adorable. She smiled at him and walked in. KC was leaning in for a kiss when Jenna put her hand up, “Wait, I need to change.” KC looked confused.”Why you look cute in your pajamas?” Jenna blushed. “But I want to look somewhat decent on our first real date in a long time!” She exclaimed and headed for the bathroom. Ten minutes later Jenna walked out of the bathroom wearing a black dress and high heels. KC’s mouth dropped. She hadn’t lost all her baby weight yet but the dress looked amazing on her. She looked up and smiled “Is this okay?” He grinned, “Perfect.” Jenna’s eyes moved to the kitchen behind KC. “AWWW, KC! You did this for me?” She said while looking at the candles and dinner on the table. KC grabbed Jenna’s hand and leaned in for a kiss. “Of course.”
Jenna could feel her cheeks flush red as KC looked her up and down with wide eyes. But the little set-up that KC had created took her mind off of her embarrassment. A slab of chicken rested on the white plates, along with green beans and mashed potatoes on the side. “Did you make this?” she asked, knowing that of course Ms. Guthrie was the chef behind this meal. KC blushed a little bit. “Well, uh, I helped.” Jenna smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck, happy to no longer feel a bump between them. He felt so much closer. “This is so perfect,” she commented, before kissing his cheek softly and sitting down at the table.
KC smiled knowing he had made Jenna happy tonight. After they finished eating KC walked over to the speaker his ipod was plugged in and pressed play on the playlist he had made for the night. He made his way back to Jenna who was still sitting down. KC put his hand out and said “May I have this dance?” Jenna grabbed KC’s hand and stood up. He pulled Jenna to the open space in the living. Jenna wrapped her arms around his neck while KC’s were around her waist as they swayed to the music.
The dinner was delicious, better than Jenna had had in days. When KC held his hand out for a dance, Jenna could literally feel her heard flutter in her chest. She hadn’t felt this type of love in so long, at least since she and him had shared that kiss at the bus stop a few months ago. Twirling her hands through his hair playfully, she felt her eyes fill to the brim with joyful tears. “I love you, KC,” she told him, feeling her voice shake from the pressure. “I love you too,” he responded as he nuzzled his head against her neck. She sighed in happiness, feeling the butterflies in her stomach slowly subside. She was so perfectly happy, dancing in the middle of the living room with the father of her child. Jenna couldn’t have asked for more.
