Chapitre 168 - A Promise in a Dream
Now featuring Mokona’s new career as a Sakura stand in! Sakura doesn’t get to be in the storyline anyway, so it might as well just be Mokona right?
The cage she sits in show how Sakura is trapped in place - her soul is in the world of dreams (matching the dreamlike background behind the curtains) and, at the same time, is inside a jam jar. Yet Sakura is there by choice, and the spider-like bars of the cage imply a stronger Evil Wolverine interpretation, so this could instead be representing Sakura’s existence in general. She has been trapped and suspended in his plans for her life from the very start, endlessly carried from world to world to further his plans even when she was asleep the whole time - just like Mokona is here!
You could also note that the Sakura branch here has been cut from its tree - so, like Sakura, it no longer has any connection to the world of the living and will slowly wither and die unless the connection is restored. Any further growth is impossible until that happens, and so the only choice is to sleep and wait.
Also? Beneath the cage is a Sakura pendant, implying that this cage was always meant for her. Or? The fact that there is a fake blossom next to the real ones is a hint that there’s an artificially created Sakura somewhere in the plotline’s future.
Will I ever let that theory go?
Nope!
But please don’t confirm or deny in either direction. I am very happy in my ignorance.
The splash text reads:
Dreams that come true,
Dreams that don’t come true,
Surely everyone’s important things...
