Yuuko has launched into her usual Exposition Mode where she chats to Mokona about the plot line for our specific benefit. This time she’s re-explaining the prices of delivering the Tsubasa Family to Kurogane’s Japan, even though Tomoyo has already explained most of the details in the previous chapter. We do get the extra information that Tomoyo helped though, which is a nice touch, though it’s the funniest CLAMP (tm) move that they needed two separate chapters worth of explanation to explain one of their plot decisions.
My favourite part is that Yuuko describes Evil Wolverine (or perhaps his goal?) as “the embodiment of all evil”. Which is WILDLY negative and perhaps the strongest description we’ve ever had of the poorly groomed man, and I LOVE it. I also adore that Tomoyo is exactly the kind of person who could not just do nothing when she knows that man is out there. She had to make a move against him, because it’d be completely against her character to allow him to go unchecked, even if things might have gone the right way anyway.
Tomoyo is just that much of a good person and I will never tire of hearing it.
Oh, also Yuuko has butterfly wings. I’m sure that’s something that xxxHolic will address properly later so I won’t spend too long wondering about this, but at the very least it matches her appearance in Watanuki’s dream a little while ago.
In which Yuuko continues to explain the further factors behind what we already know, this time including the fact that Evil Wolverine made calculations that ended up not being entirely correct and now the likelihood of his Foreseen Future coming true is falling apart - but not completely defeated.
And the fact that the willpower and wishes of people are stronger than vague plans and prophecies of the future.
And I like that sentiment! It puts a lot of power in the hands of the main cast, in direct contrast to the fact that they’ve been working against these invisible plans right from the start. Now we seem to be arriving in the position where they’ve SUCCEEDED in defying Evil Wolverine’s future several times over, all due to their individual personalities and desires, and there’s not a lot of journey left to go. They are ultimately together and with more personal power between them than Evil Wolverine ever wanted to have at this part of the journey, so things are looking up!
Now we can relax in this break from the tension of the main storyline before it all comes crashing down again.
