The most fun part of my day was my, like, weekly if not daily argument with a dumb motherfucker about parking in the fire lane.
I hate it. It blocks me from doing my work first thing, I literally have to expend a shit ton more energy to use all my arm strength and turn the carts and guide them around the person's car. Which isn't easy because I'M ON A HILL AND THE CARTS WANT TO GO STRAIGHT DOWN. To say nothing of how, duh, it's the fire lane. It's for emergency vehicles. I can't tell you how many times somebody's been all "'Why I can't park here"? I see other people parking here!" and I'm like "Cause what IF THERE'S A FIRE"
But today, we were so busy and the parking lot was so full that people were lining their cars up anywhere. Along the medians and on the street and shit. I guess 'cause it's spring or whatever. But I was SERIOUSLY getting tired of asking politely about people to move from the fire lane, which I'm actually empowered and charged to do, by law. The fire marshall and the police both have rules about keeping cars from parking there and cart pushers are supposed to politely tell people they can't park there. And I had been, all day. But this one lady, I saw her sitting there and I just grunted, "ugh can you people stop parking in the fire lane please..." and she overheard me and said, "No I can't because you need to have more parking for handicapped people!"
And here, I was still trying to not be a dick about it but I was tired and stressed and really getting pissed off. So I said, "No that's not a valid excuse, because there's a row of handicapped spots literally right there, there are bound to be more than one handicapped spot. This is an emergency lane and it's my work area, and you are parked literally two feet in front of a sign that says no parking - fire lane, towaway zone."
She started cussing at me and said, she didn't give a fuck what the sign says and that Walmart needs to be accommodating to handicapped people, and that I'm representing the company. She called me a disrespectful little shit and said that's why you're working at Walmart. And I was STILL trying not to snap on her, but I just said, "Lady if you don't get your ass out of this fire lane I can call Hanover Sheriff and HE can tell you the same thing. I'm getting tired of you people thinking you're entitled to everything and you can say whatever you want and do whatever you want. You are not a special snowflake. The sign is clear as day so you can either move now or I can make you".
She drove off but she was still talking shit, and of course, she told the manager, but I told them the same thing I told her, she was in my way and needed to move. I mean, she fucking started cussing at me first.
After I walked away I punched the bay door hard enough to dent it.
My fucking hand's throbbing.
