I have never read a single Bret Easton Ellis novel in my life, nor have I seen the film adaptation for American Psycho, but I decided to peruse the Wikipedia synopses for both that novel and his debut Less Than Zero out of pure boredom and there are, to my sheer misfortune... striking similarities between both of his novels and my own novel — so much so that I am susceptible to being accused of 'ripping off' his works despite the fact that, as I've previously stated — I have never read any of them. Good heavens.
I suppose my only consolation for this is that nobody is, in essence, truly ever original in their ideas, everybody derives inspiration from someplace no matter how remote or infinitesimal (perhaps a microscopically-vague recollection of Ellis' work spoken from somebody else's mouth at one point in time weaseled its way into my subconscious, fostered itself there for years, and that's where I conjured the foundation for my novel) and that rationale is extended to Mr. Ellis himself.
