How did i JUST NOW realize Frodo leaving room for Sam to finish the book is about him leaving room for Sam to finish his life. It's kind of a way for his history of himself, apart from his history of the war, to have closure and a happy ending. When you love someone so much, their happiness meaningfully also belongs to you.

I think Sam honored that wish, but it might not be entirely the way Frodo was thinking he would. Sam had a good long life, full of love, but though it lost its bitterness the longing remained, and he didn't record the rest of his life in that book. He added his return from the Grey Havens, he interleaved the whole story through with how much he loved Frodo, and he left it there.
