“Running away so soon?”
Dropping the anchor onto your boat, you turned towards a melodious voice that hummed as your boat lurched forward. Gaining your balance, you grinned down to find a familiar face with a coy smile.
The first thing you noticed was her deep auburn hair, mussed by the ocean water yet still so invitingly soft, you itched to run your hand through her locks. Her sun-kissed skin glistened as she folded her arms at the edge of your rowboat, simultaneuosly pulling herself up and rocking you forward until your face was only a touch away from hers. Placing a hand to her left, you secured yourself as she smirked at your sudden closeness.
Her eyes were glassy, specks of sunlight capturned in amber iris that spinned like molten gold—alluring, enchanting, and taunting you—no treasure really compares to them. With the gentle breeze that ruffled through your flowy dress shirt, it carried the scent of crisp ocean air, a mix of sea salt and a hint of lavender, filling your senses and sending an exhilarating rush down your body. You were swaying with the wind and leaned further towards her—towards the deep blue ocean.
Gripping the splintering wood underneath your palm, you grounded yourself. Noticing your tension, Tzuyu’s smirk grew, revealing her dimples.
As if she hadn’t just tried to drag you down into the sea, she innocently placed her chin on her palm. Mischief still present in her gaze as she looked you up and down; undone shirt, missing shoe, your scabbard hanging loosely on your hip.
“You know why I’m running,” you said. It was meant to be harsh, but still playful. Instead it was almost whisper-like, breathy even because Tzuyu had decided to run a hand up your arm.
“Do I now?” Tzuyu chuckled, both her hands carding through the ruffles of your shirt, brushing past your collarbone and sending shivers through your skin. With a faint tug, she was tying the ends of your shirt together, a low hum from the back of her throat as she smoothened out the fabric.
You wanted to respond, wanted to say something smart, keep up your usual banter but your mind was painfully blank.
Instead, you only murmured something as Tzuyu’s hands trailed up your neck and landed on your jaw. A look of longing passing her features before returning back to its relaxed state filled with mirth.
Then it all happened in a second.
The faraway yelling and stomping of navy officers. Your distracted glance.
Tzuyu’s soft lips on yours.
The rolling of your boat followed by a splash.
You were underwater… with Tzuyu’s lips still on yours.
As if instinctively, your eyes had closed and your hands had moved to cup her cheeks. Tzuyu smiled into the kiss and pulled you closer. Forgetting your current situation, you relished in her touch, yearning for more of her. She seemed to have the same idea.
Light-headed, your eyes flitted open and you were met with the most beautiful sight.
Tzuyu’s flowing hair, luscious under water. Her skin, capturing the little sunlight that makes it to the bottom of the sea. However, nothing compares to the beauty that is her tail; a mixture of turquoise and teal, shining like emeralds.
When her lips parted from yours, you naturally gasped, pressing your fingers to your mouth so you don’t drink in sea water. Tzuyu watched you panic for a bit, before giggling to herself and pried your hands away—you could breathe underwater!
Surprised, you let out a scream, though it was more like a gurgle. Tzuyu only shook her head before taking your hand in hers. Letting her lead you away, you decided to watch Tzuyu instead. It’s not often you get to see her where she belongs, in the ocean.
Tzuyu came to a stop and turned to face you, her hands wrapped around your waist. “Ready?” Tzuyu said, although it sounded like a music note, travelling with the waves, lulling you—her power was amplified.
Still somewhat untrusting that you could breathe underwater, you just nodded in answer. Tzuyu smirked before looking towards the sky, taking you with her.
Though you didn’t struggle in the water, you still gasped for air when you broke through the seafoam. Unlike Tzuyu’s graceful presence, you could smell the reek of seaweed on yourself. Clumps of sea drenched hair stuck to your forehead and neck as you sputtered. Having lived a life on the sea, you’d thought you’d be more used to it.
Tzuyu tugged your hand and you looked toward her, past her you could see your little rowboat. Confused, you looked behind you and could barely make out the port you tried escaping from.
“You’re welcome,” was all Tzuyu said, before she pushed you towards your rowboat.
Out of breath and cold, you clambered on, rocking as you did. Tzuyu watched you curiously, her smirk never really leaving as your mind reeled from what you just experienced. You still weren’t in the clear, you had to make it back to your crew.
“Thanks, Tzuyu,” you said softly and she shrugged.
“I’ll see you again,” she said, confidently, not really moving away from your boat.
Smiling, you moved to the edge of the boat, swiftly catching her lips on yours by using your thumb to hold her chin up. Humming, you nodded, “I know.”
any feedback is much appreciated.
