01 isn’t going to say he’s never had a friend before, because, like, that’dbe pretty untrue and seriously mean to his old friends.

…that doesn’t mean 01 isn’t kind nervous aboutbeing a royal guard, you know? Like. It’s a big change in his life, dude.Finally meeting the awesome captain Undyne, working in a group, getting buffand super cool armor…

Doesn’t mean he’s not a lil nervous, you know? About the wholemaking-new-connections, thing. He’s never been the best communicator, you know? And like, he’s actually kinda shy, sohe really loves his helmet and like… never takes it off.

It’s definitely a good thing he reaaally likeshis helmet, because it’s a total pain to fit over his horns, man.

A total pain.

One time he tried and he fell over from pullingtoo hard, and like, he actually cracked his helmet from how hard he hit theground? Which like, that would be fine, Captain Undyne thought it was badasseven though they had to replace it. The problem was, even if the crack in thehelmet was totally badass? Falling on his ass because he couldn’t get hishelmet off was super lame.

Which would have been okay.

Except 02 was watching.

So here’s the lowdown, broskis.

02 is like.

Cool.

He is so, so super cool.

He doesn’t really talk, and he’s really tall,and he’s a fish monster like Captain Undyne, with neat little pointy ear-finsthat look really really delicate, and they stick out of his helmet! 02 flattensthem against his skull to put the helmet on. Then, they just pop out throughthese two little ear-holes. Fin holes. Fnear holes.

It’s really cute to watch them pop out.

01 tries to pretend he’s not looking.

When they get assigned together, 01 is sure it’snot going to work. Like, he’s pretty chatty, and 02 really likes quiet, right? Hedoesn’t want to annoy his new partner!

But then they actually go into duo trainingtogether to learn special team attacks, and 01 and 02 are totally in synch,bouncing up and down and waving their swords.

…something clicks.

The first real issue that comes into theirpartnership is their partnership.

“…assigned to Hotland,” 02 informs him, helmetimpassive.

“Sweet!” 01 says, fist-pumping in his armor beforehe notices that 02’s impassive helmet and monotone voice seems a little down. “Somethingwrong, bro?”

“…don’t like the heat,” 02 tells him, shiftingvery slightly in a way 01 reads as sheepishness.

01 blinks in realization.

“Ohh…” he says. His partner is a fish! Why didthey assign a fish to Hotland. He claps 02 on the shoulder. “Dude. I totallygot your back. We’ll go talk about getting a reassignment, and like, if thatdoesn’t work out, I promise you. I’ll show you aaaaall the good places with,like, cool air and stuff. No problemo, bro.”

And02 smiles.
