What do you know, another video about the site’s new censorship. Or rather, a new mode I guess? I’m not sure if it actually counts as censorship since users have to actually opt into the mode itself, and most everyone one didn’t really know about it until recently. But we’ll come back to that.

Overall, it’s something that I felt like I should address since, given how my channel started, most of my more personal vlogs get hidden if you turn on restricted mode. I’m not going to shy around the fact that I’ve talked intimately about both my gender identity and sexuality, the effects it has had on my life have been nothing short of monumental. Censoring something like that does the exact opposite of what I want do to when I talk about those sorts of things, ya know? I vlog about those parts of my life to show people they aren’t broken – we aren’t broken. We’re people, we have a community and this is a safe space. 

However, it seems like – as a few other people have mentioned – there only seems to be two modes. No restriction what so ever, and the most extreme restriction. So, I’m sincerely hoping this is just a really failed early system. Or at the very least the outcry caused by this sort of repression will get them to rethink their system. Youtube has been a huge platform for me to just express myself, and to create a community with all of you, and with other lgbt+ vloggers. 

It just– it feels like such a huge step back and a slap in the face. And I know this was a short video, and I hope that my next video is back to my usual. I just couldn’t sit quietly on this one, and I needed to get my feelings, however uncoordinated they may be out for now.
