You’re wild
In 1983-1984 I was in 1st and 2nd grade, and IT FELT weird at the time, but we had to do under the desk nuclear bomb hiding drills IN OUR many window'd ABOVE GROUND SCHOOL HOUSE occasionally.
Now we didnt know much about bombs but the filmstrips about FALLOUT made it pretty clear that we'd not have MUCH protection, so we made fun of it.
We knew what an apocalypse might look like, and a russian war, as it was the 80's, but it was still a strange fictional concept, really.
Although back then, as our old downtown (its prime in the 50's) still had fallout shelter declaration signs on many old storefronts leading to their dank little basements (downtown renovations would not occur for some 22 years yet), and tv kept discussing worrying topics, you always kept it in the back of your mind really.. still knowing that your town was Ill prepared for something. Especially since people were still talking about the flooding that happened in the '50s.
Anyway, a topic I've been thinking about since long before current events. I wish we all had a sturdy desk.
