August 02-07, 2010
So this was basically my week. I pretty much hated this week. d:
Monday; Actually, for a Monday it was pretty chill. I thought I was just gonna go straight home but instead I went to Nina's house with Lex. We took the new Dash route with the fare of 35 cents. lol! We were all excited but it was like nothing, it was pretty funny. But yeah, got to Nina's house and she got me all into her Asian band; Shinee. My new guilty pleasure. Justkeed. ;D But yeah, we ate. Then went back to her room and watched Extreme Movie. OH MY, do NOT watch this movie. It's so awkward, but it was hilarious. We did not expect it. We just wanted to watch it because Michael Cera<3 was in it. But he was barely in it for like 2 minutes. d: But yeah, it was funny. Then we watched this Asian movie called My Love. Lex left like in the beginning of it, LAME. But yeah, I didn't cry. ;D Nina teared up. I forced myself not to cry. (x But yeah, AFTER we just talked/vented/told stories. LOVED IT! lol! We still have to do it again since we live so close to each other. But yeah, she dropped me home. Good Monday. (:
Tuesday. Bused it to LA and went to Hermie's house to practice for our recording for our song for the BMA's! It went pretty good. (: But yeah, afterwards went to Kuya Jr's house and took a nap. Then church afterwards. Oh my, after though I got SO PISSED from the news. But felt better when I got home.
Wednesday. This is when the shit started. My tummy started hurting like fuuuu. It was so horrible, I thought I was like dying or something. (x But yeah, I still went to school anyway. After, just went to get a dollar ice cream at Foster's with Laurie then bused it home. Oh my, this guy on the bus was so creepy! He was like "huffing" apparently and like he was being all weird! But he got off the bus, so it was okay. But yeah, I got home and I just got a random fever! I was in bed for most of the day. And that's when the HIM thang started too. Hated it even more because I was sick too, so UGH. d: But yeah, all I ate this day was that ice cream and a banana because my mom forced me to eat it for medicine.
Thursday. I thought I was feeling better so I went to school. Ended up throwing up during class so I told my mother to pick me up. So I just went home. I was really craving some boba so wife brought me some, yay! Went to rent some movies and got me some chapstick. Rented Kick Ass and Adventureland, watched at my house. It was weird because we're usually not at my house but we watched it anyway. But she left and I stayed home. HIM again, fuck you.
Friday. Felt better, f'sho! So went to school. After, mother picked me up and dropped me off at Hermie's. And recorded our song all professionally, loved it! But I can't really leak anything about it, so sorry. Just wait until the BMA's. (; But yeah, I was there most of the day. It was so tiring, but I was with awesome people. So it was all good. Went home, called the world. lol! Good catching up with Samm. (x
Todaaaaay! The worst morning. But went to Hermie's house again for the first day of filming. And my churchies really know how to get my mind off things. (: So yeah, played games and such. It was chill.
VENT ABOUT the TOAST. d:
So let's just say, it's done with. Hah, a month. That's cute. Is that what you do to all the people you "talk" with? Just so you can get over that other girl? Real mature. I've never been played like that EVER. That's the only thing that got to me. Not that you used me or anything but how I feel so stupid about being that girl. Hah. You were fun while it lasted. Just that usual summer thing of MINE. d:
LALALA, hook it up.
Introducing new Iowa music
This is the kick-off for a series of six consecutive posts highlighting the featured composers from a May 10 wcfsymphony concert celebrating 25 years of the Iowa Composers Forum. Many thanks to Ralph Kendrick of the ICF for his dedication to the project. Here is my introduction from the stage [mp3].
Introducing Jonathan Chenette
When he’s not busy writing witty, approachable music Jon Chenette is associate dean at Grinnell College. He’ll be back with wcfsymphony in October with an arrangement of Macapay for our mutual friends Calle Sur. This is the conclusion of Oh Millersville!, from which wcfsymphony performed five movements with Susan Bender on May 10 [mp3].
Introducing Michael Gilbertson
Michael Gilberston is currently studying composition at Juilliard. He’s originally from Dubuque, Iowa and wrote Polovitsia: Music to an Imaginary Ballet as a teenager there and at Tanglewood. Hear an excerpt [mp3].
Introducing Brooke Joyce
Brooke Joyce is currently on faculty at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. October Skies, his concertino for piano and small orchestra, is drawn from an earlier work of the same title for flute quartet; at the conclusion of this version the ensemble melts away into an evocative passage with three offstage flutes trailing the meanderings of the piano [mp3]
Introducing Jeremy Beck
Sinfonietta by Jeremy Beck is a four-movement work for strings. Even though Jeremy no longer resides in Iowa [and couldn’t make it to Cedar Falls for our ICF event due to an emergency] it has been a great pleasure to get to know him personally this year in his current hometown of Louisville. Hear the second movement of Sinfonietta [mp3], available on a recording by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Introducing Jerry Owen
Jerry Owen is the elder stateman of our composer group from May 10. He has been a member of the Iowa Composers Forum for several decades and is recently retired from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, where he led the symphony orchestra in addition to teaching theory and composition. I’ve had the opportunity to perform Jerry’s work on a number of occasions; May 10 was our first go around with Glee at wcfsymphony [mp3]
